MANDALUS: What You Should KnowAlso known Mandalus the 411!
Given the extensive amount of information that has evolved and been released since
mandalus started, the Mod Team has come together and written up an all-in-one information page for you! These are all facts that your character can know in-game. They're available through books at The Library or facts found on the Mandalus Network. Your characters are more than welcome to keep a "What We Know" database if you would like! Special information bits that have been brought to the game through events are marked with a (*).
• What Is Mandalus?
Mandalus is a city that is located on a planet that is, for now, also referred to as Mandalus. The city is broken down into five districts, the fifth being currently unnamed and under construction. The city is an advanced civilization in terms of technology, but modern city transportation can be found around the city. While there is an established religion, not many inhabitants seem devout or follow it outside the traditions.
Below is some stats that are listed about Mandalus:
Size: 370sq ft (958 km²)
Government: Appointed Rulers (The System)
Rulers: The Entity and Praenuntius
Religion: Polytheistic
Head Priestess: Ensi
Districts: Business District, Residential District, Venetian District, Old Town, Unannounced District
Transportation: Cars, Buses, Lightrail Trains, Bicycles, Gondolas (Venetian District only)
Security: Due to
The Tides of War Event, every transit station and district crossing scans the Bangles of your characters as a security check.
Location: Mandalus has been stated by The System to be the center of the multiverse. Thor Odinson
believes that Mandalus is located at the bottom of Yggrdasil - The World Tree of Norse Mythology/Traditions.
• What Is the religion of Mandalus?
(*)The lore/mythology of Mandalus plays a key part in not only holidays but also the ongoing plot of the city. There will be a post in the future that will give a greater detail of the Pantheon of Mandalus and their myths, but for this post we are sticking to what has been announced either in our OOC community or in-character!
Five (5) gods and goddesses can currently be found in the Pantheon of the Mandalus. Information about the Pantheon can be found in the Library of Mandalus University or the Temple in the Venetian District. Here is a quick rundown of the gods and their tales that can be found in the city as of now:
The Serpent, the End of All: In the myths this Serpent battles the Pantheon constantly. The force that attacks Mandalus has been called "The Serpent" after this mythical being, but it remains to be seen if it is truly the same thing.
Messis, The Goddess of Harvest: Messis was the deity that saw to the blossoming of crops and livelihood of Mandalus. There is a week long holiday in August in her honor called
The Festival of Messis.
Morgeis, the Demi-God of Passing: Son to Goddess Enrilem and a mortal man, Morgeis was tasked with taking souls to the afterlife. He was lover and husband to Messis. Morgeis met his demise when the Serpent ate him whole. It was believed that the Fifth of November was when Morgeis would ferry the restless souls for the year to their final resting place. There is a two week long holiday at the end of October to mark when Morgeis would ferry the dead, known as
Morgeis' Walk.
Enrilem, the Goddess of Hope: Mother of Morgeis, Enrilem belongs to the top tier of the Pantheon. Enrilem is best known for her myth of creating hope through the winter months of Mandalus after the depression of Messis from Morgeis' death. There is a two week holiday in her honor of bringing hope to Mandalus, named
The Lights of Life.
NOTE: Much of Enrilem's mythos has changed since her first announcement due to the evolving story of the game.
Ghooloo, the God of Pranks: Ghooloo is the trouble maker god of the Mandalus Pantheon. He is only slightly mentioned in available myths for the moment.
• What about Mandalus' Spaceport?
(*)While it hasn't been something that has been explored entirely, the Mandalus Spaceport does point to Mandalus once being involved in inter-planetary travel. Most of the documents have been destroyed in The Library, but fragments can be found in the desert and Spaceport itself if characters look deeply enough! Below is a list of destinations that can be found currently:
Ghooloo, The Moon: Named after Ghooloo, there was once a space station present on the surface of Ghooloo.
Luthien, the Gold Star: A planet near Mandalus that was a supplier of agriculture.
Eros, the Purple Star: Unknown except it was the furthest destination from Mandalus.
Rondi Proma, the Sister Planet: Rondi Proma can be seen in Mandalus' sky as a bright star. Documentation shows that it could inhabit life, just as Mandalus could, and colonies were once present on its' surface.
New Oberon: Unknown except it is the earliest addition to documents.
The Void: The only listed information is that the planet, or area of space, was to be avoided entirely. There is no documentation that has been revealed as to why.
• What about Mandalus Underground?
Revealed after the destruction of the Army of the Serpent, the Mandalus Underground is a series of tunnels and caved in areas of the previous city of Mandalus. As with most human civilizations, Mandalus built over top of itself. Ancient pottery and even a few things from the space fairing days of the Mandalus culture can be found in the Underground. It is accessible to everyone!
