cancer

So I have "abnormal cells on the wall of my cervix and in the canal of my cervix which contain a high level of dysplasia usually only found in cancerous cells." I love lingo. I have paperwork in for a Grant that will cover a LEEP Biopsy (this will sponsor me to leap off a bridge) and if I'm approved, I can go to a doctor in Big Rapids and have ( Read more... )

Oh boy, a LEEP. I sure as hell hope they do something for your pain management. You seem to respond to surgery about as well as I do. ("You shouldn't be in that much pain." "Shouldn't my ass, I AM ( ... )

Jenn told me I should tell them up front before the LEEP that if they don't intend to prescribe me a pain medication, I refuse to have the procedure. Can you call and pretend to be my lawyer and tell them I need to be able to manage my pain? :-p

I shall heretofore refer to the procedure as the "LEEP off a cliff" procedure (or the "LEEP in front of a bus" procedure).

When I went to Grand Rapids for the Coloposcopy, the doctor went over this huge million page list of all the different strains of HPV and how you could possibly contract them, and when I started to explain about my sexual history and how when I was exposed it was against my will, she said "Oh honey, most women have been exposed to HPV, they just don't know it. It's easy to be exposed and it's more common than people know. And even if you did choose to have sex and became exposed that way, it doesn't mean you deserve cancer for doing that." That was really a relief to hear.

::hugs:: I wish there was something I could do to help you.

In any case, 4 is not a high number of sexual partners. The average female heterosexual person in their 40s has probably had 8 or 9 (see http://www.umich.edu/news/index.html?Releases/2006/Feb06/r021306d). I'd say you are pretty much right on target for the average person. You just know an awful lot of really judgmental better-than-thou people and unfortunately you spend a lot of time bumping up against the worst that the American health care system has to offer in terms of not believing that women know what is going on with their own bodies.

You could shoot all my doctors for me. that would help. dn't shoot the new doctor yet though, I haven't met him and he might not be a prickface.

I never thought four sexual partners was that many either, but I know some people don't ever have sex so the number is high...it's just...no one starts out in their life and says "I'm going to have sex with a ton of people and have a bunch of meaningless hookups and a lot of painful broken relationships." People don't go into a relationship thinking it's going to break up. Having sex isn't the smartest thing you can do, but "smart" doesn't usually enter the picture when hormones and emotions are involved and people tend to judge other people for their behavior too much. I don't know. I get tired of people. Especially conservative Christian people. :-p

I have the same problem with this icon. I use it to express my anger and irritation at someone or something that's angering or irritating or hurting my friends, but I'm always worried they'll think "Who am I kidding? Who are YOU kidding, JERK." On the internets, drama starts from small things like icons all the time.
