I AM SO EMOTIONAL. JORDAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

I totes agree about world-building. Singh is really really good at it, and also doesn't overwhelm us with details in a way that I think other paranormal/fantasy/whatever people do - I'm thinking GRRM and Tolkein here (white dudes man). And she's really good at engaging on multiple levels, and bringing in different threads and seeing how all three races truly are symbiotic with each other, and once the Psy got CRAZY, that's when shit started falling apart. I keep waiting for her to go into more detail concerning the Territorial Wars??? And how the countries got split up? But eh I'm okay if she doesn't, because it's already such a rich tapestry.

idk they're matchmaking up Arrows and spending their days having sex everywhere and being model Psy citizens for the Psy race while ruling it.BBS. I CRY ( ... )

She knows like the exact amount of detail to give us, without being too much. And I always hunger for more. LIKE GIVE ME YOUR BIBLE. I WANT IT. I WANT TO SEE IT.

RILEY'S WOLF BUILDING THE CABIN FOR MERCY. NOOOOOOOOOOO. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO MEEEEEEEE.

I'M SORRY IT'S A THOUGHT I HAD AND I CAN'T LET IT GO NOW. I have no idea if it actually works, but like it sort of fits the timeline of when he started interacting with her.

Also so much female agency in these books, too. I think we've talked about this before, but I love that there is a high level of women going toe-to-toe with the men/powers that be and asserting themselves and not becoming just side pieces to the men in their lives.

SAME. I find it so good and important and the respect she gives them.

I think paranormal romance is the best genre fit for it, but YEAH. And I've ran into people who get REALLY picky about genre labels.

The only other author I would compare her to actually, in terms of level of detail, doing it justice, and keeping it all consistent and great every time is Jacqueline Carey.

AHHH. I never thought of it, but that's a PERFECT comparison.

Her characters list is huge. But I don't ever feel like she's repeated a character ever. This is SO true. Like, she does similar character types? But in a way that makes everyone feel entirely unique ( ... )

People do get so touchy about genre categories lol. It's funny to me.

AHHH. I never thought of it, but that's a PERFECT comparison.

I thought so! It came to me while I was trying to find a reference point, and I was like wait yes, that's actually a really good comparison.

I am so impressed with how she did Kaleb and worked him through. It's one of the most impressive things out of the series, imo.

I do love that she doesn't shy from the family things. And that it constantly gets brought up again and again. I WOULD BE SAD WITHOUT THEM.

GOOD I'M GLAD. I SPENT LIKE TWO HOURS AT WORK THIS MORNING NOT WORKING AND WRITING THIS INSTEAD, LOLLL. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK SERIES FOREVER.

I was going to talk about Mercy and Riley anyway, because I do so love that they're a pairing that are partners that start out on even footing and it's just reconfiguring that for two people now and building a life togetherrrr.

I'm eternally impressed by how many characters there are in this universe, but how none of them are the same or even similar. /i>

I'm always so impressed by this. Like in any authors, but especially with her she's just so amazing with how she does it. She really is so impressive. I mean some of the books work less for me than others, and some characters I'm not as into, BUT I never felt like wow this just sucks and you've ruined it.

And I am now reading your other post on them and I may be crying just thinking about everything they've been through, individually before they even met, and then together even after they met, until they ( ... )

this is a good post and I am not talking to you after the Riley's wolf thing. NOT TALKING TO YOU.

Idk if it's real or makes sense, but it was a thought that came to me. And then there's nothing that disproves it? And having re-read book 6 now, there's not anything in their book that disproves it either. It's the man that thought he wanted a submissive. The wolf was always into Mercy after they started working together.

No, I think it's an excellent idea. I like the idea that Riley's wolf always knew too, but that he knew that Riley and Mercy weren't ready yet so he just took more subtle steps. Because Riley's wolf is much more subtle than Hawke's, at least until pushed to the absolute limit.

Her world building is to die for. Favourite thing about the series tbh. Never thought that I'd find it in a series with so much time devoted to romance, but I was wrong, because it just made her writing and pacing tighter, fitting all those things in. I whine a lot about the series, but god yes, the absolute individuality of each pairing's dynamic, the construction of every lead character and most of the supporting characters, it's so good.

I want my theory that Aden has to randomly deliver them to come true.
A+ You and your domestic Arrows.

Your talk on identity and feelings has made me think of the Laurens in particular, who are so absolute in their journey to reclaim their identity. Social isolation and rediscovery was one thing, but Judd and Sienna both managed to redefine and rediscover their powers entirely... two weapons who learned to turn their powers to healing ( ... )

The world building amazes me every time. Like the universe is just so compelling to me.

A+ You and your domestic Arrows.

I just keep coming up with random scenarios lol. That spawned off after my Rina/Aden idea.

Social isolation and rediscovery was one thing, but Judd and Sienna both managed to redefine and rediscover their powers entirely... two weapons who learned to turn their powers to healing.

Yes!!! The first time I read the series, it was truly the Lauren family and those two that stood out to me the most in terms of identity construction and wanting to take things back on their own. And that they get to succeed is very important to me.

IT'S SUPER CREEPY ACTUALLY how well it fits. But also on a personal level hell yes, opposites attracting, the most subtle, undetectable power in the Net and the most ostentatious, obvious power of them all.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM ALWAYS BUT YES THIS. GOD I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH. they're everything to me.
