[ On goes the video feed. He is still wary of such a device, however, it would seem that the situation more than called for it. ]

It would seem that winter has come upon us quickly and harshly.

[ Eventually, the Starks are always rightStannis Baratheon does not look particularly impressed, but then again, this should come as a surprise to no-one ( Read more... )

It is not an enitrely unreasonable expectation, Malfoy.

[ Though most have been three or four. ]

[ ...it had never specified the length of the winters in any of the books that he had read since arriving in this world. referenced, perhaps. but never specified.

now, he was beginning to understand the reason why. ]

Two years would be considered a shorter winter in Westeros, my realm.

It is not the case here?

...Only two more years, huh? And here I thought we'd be stuck in winter for a few long, agonizing months. But two years sounds so much better.

[ he remains as courteous as he possibly can... ]

Even in legends, I have not heard of a winter that was shorter than one yesr.

[ ...but do not think that he does not know when a man is mocking him, ser. ]

Don't forget, Professor, this is a different world from your own. Here, we get four seasons a year.

Do you think that I had not noticed that?

[ He was rather close to deducting points from Gryffindor, but the boy had not yet done anything to truly deserve such a thing. ]

Given the circumstances of our arrival, it was not a foolish assumption.

Do winters last that long?

As I have been told multiple times, apparently not in this realm.

However where I come from, some have been known to last over seven years.

Eeeh, that's a pretty long winter where you come from. Normally, winters are just 4-5 months, tops.

As many have informed me, ser.

[ If he hears that one more time... he might just clench his jaw so hard that he'll chip a tooth. ]

To all from my world, such a short lengh would seem unfathomable.

Professor, winter only lasts about four months in Scotland. Sometimes five.

[ He had known the relative location of Scotland (in relation to the rest of this strange world.), thanks to an old book. however, there had been no mentions of the lengths of the seasons.

and now they take me for a fool. ]

In Scotland only? Does that not hold true for the rest of the world?

[ Though, it would appear that they were on an island that was comparable in size to Tarth. ]

It is a strange world we are in where seasons are as such.

Many have been kind enough to inform me of that, Lady Malfoy.

Then what of the other seasons? Are they also only a few short months?

All four seasons in the span of a year?

There is nothing to forgive, my lady. Westeros can be an unforgiving land at the best of times. However, while the winters may be long and harsh, the summers may also be equally long.

Our last summer lasted nine years. When I was brought here, we were in our second year of autumn.

[ To give no mention to the next winter that may very well be the last for many men. ]
