Proswatch: Look After The Old Bag

Mar 18, 2008 22:03

That is what I call this ep in my head anyway… Am well late with this, so please feel free to come hither or ignore!

The DVD says: “A heart to heart… When a left-wing preacher’s life is threatened, Cowley sends in Bodie and Doyle to protect her. But to the CI5 agents, it soon becomes clear that their boss’ involvement is something more than ( Read more... )

Never too late, y'know!
That tea-making scene worries me though - look at the state of that sink behind Bodie where he spills the milk! What in heaven's name has the caretaker been doing to get a white butler's sink quite that black - tanning leather perhaps or forging steel? I'm possibly the least houseproud woman in the world but I wouldn't want a drink made there, and whatever that caretaker is cleaning it isn't that sink, obviously. Dereliction of duty, man. No Army man would leave it like that!
Doyle probably needs three spoonfuls of sugar to cover the taste of the plutonium poison from that sink! And why are the lads drinking tea and playing cards in the cleaner's cupboard anyway? I don't remember ever seeing this room in any other eps? Very strange!
That little scene of Doyle keeling over in the van is so touching, I expect the editors decided to make the most f it and use it twice. Though, on the other hand, they may not have expected eagle eyed obsessives fans to be watching it avidly and analysing it frame by frame thirty ( ... )

D'you know, the state of the room and sink etc just struck me as seriously realistic, for a place where alot of working blokes hang out (and spill milk... *g*) - or maybe I've just spent too much time with the wrong sort of working blokes! Also, they also seem to move headquarters alot as well, so maybe they don't bother too much in some places? Depending on how long they think they'll be there, maybe? Hmmmn - that's never mentioned in fics, is it?!

As I said to Rosie, to me it looks like an art-room sink, just waiting for old paint water and brushes. The room itself sort of strikes me as a... hmm, sort of wash room for things rather than people - not totally sure why anyone would want to sit and drink tea in it! Yes, maybe they don't bother too much with places, good point! (Especially as a lot of CI5 HQ looks condemned in some eps!)

Aw thanks! That room is very odd - I think it crops up again as a baddie's pad in another episode... at least, you see the same stained glass window. Of course, cannot remember the episode - isn't that always the way!

And the sink... it reminds me of art-room sinks, but yes, he could well have been tanning leather! There is a rather dirty fireplace behind Doyle as well, if I recall rightly. Not totally sure what the caretaker does either... collect mugs? Gather newspapers? Not a lot, whatever it is. Think Cowley is being kind, which doesn't go with his budget scouring image!

And yes, your idea why the editors use the keeling over scene twice is a good one. It was passing out in style!

Oh, fun as always! I do love the screencaps to go along with the commentary. (Yes, I cannot get enough of looking at the lads... *g*) Doyle definitely has a sweet tooth here--which makes you wonder down the road why he gave up sugar. But then, that's also one reason why I love this show--there are changes and developments and plenty of fodder for fannish speculation. *g* Such as...why are they so bouncy and happy in this episode? *g*

Thank you for this! It's never too late!

Cheers! Yes very true, changes and developments in characters all help crank up the imagination. And yes indeed - why so bouncy and happy?!! Shall ponder that further! *g*

Excellent recap, I love the way you combine commentary with pictures. And I never noticed the state of that sink behind Bodie til rosie55 commented here, but yuk!! The tea-room scene and Doyle's wicked chuckles are standouts in this.

Ta! And the sink is filthy - I am presuming they clean bits of cars in it. Odd place for a cuppa, but maybe they were desperate to get away from Anson's cigar smoke in the VIP room *g*

Ah, what a wonderful review with lots of yummy pics. It was definitely worth waiting for (especially as mine was far too early). How the hell did you manage to concentrate on the clock in Cowley's office when the lads are around??? *impressed* I adore people with an eye for all those small things that usually escape my attention.

Cheers, glad you liked! One of my fave things is spotting all the little details, as they all build up to help me write fic, although I know, very lax attention on the lads! Still, at least I can trust you have them covered for me ;)

Oh, I agree with rosie55 - definitely never too late for one of these!

Table cloth - heeeee! - "left-wing preacher's life" - my god, that's left-wing these days? Now I'm scared... - they share the same chair - yes! - wonder how many times they filmed this scene? - Doesn't current rumour (ie, the one I heard *g*) have it that there's hardly any bloopers footage because they used every bit of film they could, and hardly ever re-shot? I dunno... *g* - Okay, I'm all dizzy with hyphens, it's gonna have to be paragraphs after all...

I’ve never read this as he is shocked he is black, more that he is shocked she has a lover.
Oh, I figured Cowley was shocked because a half-naked bloke had just come out of the bathroom of the woman he was flirting with, just as he was arranging a date with her... oops *g*. The black thing never occurred to me until you mentioned it here! (I so need to catch up on everyone's commentaries!)

that amused smile he does when something isn’t quite right on set - I might have to start collecting these, they are very ( ... )

Yes I agree with the blooper thing, I've heard that as well, and it makes sense considering there are only 3 known out-takes (MS falling out the van, the lamp falling off the desk... and oh, another one I cannot remember now, hmm I thought it was 3 anyway!), all the rest of the mistakes seem to be left in the show ( ... )
