Despite the persistent rain, I've managed to get outside long enough (just!) to take a few photos of the garden.

The linarias have finally been released from all of the weeds that had surrounded them over the last few weeks and are now happily blooming in their various-coloured splendour!

Spring has finally arrived in my garden. 2-3 years ago, many of the flowers would have bloomed 2-3 weeks earlier. The seasons are getting later and later. Who knows, we may eventually swap seasons with the Northern Hemisphere! :)

The freesias make it a pleasure to walk in the garden - both the colours and the fragrance wafting as you walk past.

We've had a fair bit of rain over the last few days.  Makes for some good flower pictures!

I particularly like this one.  Another partially-opened hyacinth bud is reflected in the raindrop on the left.

Just five days ago I posted some photos of my broccoli plants.  This afternoon when I got home from work I looked at them and found one was starting to flower!  Literally - about 4-5 yellow flowers had opened.  It was time to pick them.

I had already cut the flowering head before taking this photo of the others.

Six weeks ago, I posted some pictures of my new vegetable garden.  Things have been humming along quite nicely since then.

I'm most impressed with the broccoli.

This is the time of the year that we prepare the garden for winter.  It's been a long, hot, dry summer.  The shrubs are overgrown.  The grass, which should be the "lawn", is actually growing in the garden, while the "lawn" area is practically bereft of grass...  It all needs to be removed so we can start again, but it would be a big job.  The grass ( Read more... )

Late this afternoon we found a tiny baby bird on the ground. It was flapping around blindly. There was no sign of it's parents anywhere. We didn't want to leave it on the ground for a hawk or a cat to attack, so I brought it inside. I checked some websites to see if there was anything we could to for it. Ever since I saw the first tiny buds on my Moonflower plant (epiphyllum oxypetalum) on the 23rd November, I've been looking forward to this day.  I've had flowers before (none last year, though) but only one picture of a  flower in full bloom - and one of a spent bloom taken the day after.
