This is the time of the year that we prepare the garden for winter. It's been a long, hot, dry summer. The shrubs are overgrown. The grass, which should be the "lawn", is actually growing in the garden, while the "lawn" area is practically bereft of grass... It all needs to be removed so we can start again, but it would be a big job. The grass is almost impossible to get out of the garden (it has long runners that travel underground). One day...
We spent a couple of days this weekend in the garden trimming and pruning the tree and shrubs. And pulling out that grass. Our neighbour helped with the tree, which was very much appreciated. The rest we did on our own. I have the scratches on my arms, leg and a blister on my finger to prove it!
It was a very warm day (34C) on Sunday when we started the job, but today was overcast and later it rained - hence the still-unpulled grass in some of the pictures! Some befores and afters:
The last shrub has been hiding its flowers inside it's prickly foliage (the reason I have scratches on my arms). Here's a flower...
Some of last years' seed pods.
One opened pod.
The perennial Westringia is still flowering! There are just two flowers left after the pruning - this is one of them! I'm sure there'll be more soon.
A few pictures of the Gilt Dragon Grevillea flowers.
While I was out in the garden I looked up to see three black cockatoos fly overhead. They were almost out of sight by the time I snapped a picture! I just liked the shapes their wings made.
