Going through pictures from the trips up to Massachusetts. Mostly it's sad. The pictures are beautiful and interesting and worth having, maybe someday worth sharing if I can figure out how.
Awkward funeral story: Every single person in my family showed up to my grandmother's funeral. I sat outside with my sister and brother, who hate each other, and listened to them trying to be polite. Then all of the family divided into their factions and we worked very hard to not speak to each other. It was fun.
Stories like this make me glad to have a small polite family. It's sad how many stories like that one there are. I didn't know how lucky I'd feel not to have that extra layer of horrible family crap on top of this, but the more people I talk to, the more I give thanks to have avoided that.
The one big traditional funeral I went to/was part of a few years was a whole education in petty family drama and unintentional hurt, and they were good people, just in a crappy situation.
So far, as miserable as this has been, it has brought out nothing but good in people, family and community. The MHC thing for ande was really amazing. I keep meaning to post about it and not really knowing how. I wanted pictures, but nobody really had the presence of mind to take them.
