I have learned tonight that if one leaves one's lava lamp on overnight, the wax will become hot enough that it'll get bubbles in it, and the floating blobs will start to resemble little alien heads with little alien faces

I have wondered if these kind of cases would be nearly as famous if they had been solved. Would the Black Dahlia murder still be so well-known if they'd never caught the guy and there weren't still people theorizing about who did it? Probably not. Although I didn't vote for Jack, I knew practically nothing about these murders before and I found this really interesting. I've heard only bad things about the movie From Hell but I think I might try watching it sometime anyway.
Hi, I'm a big fan of your PoU series. I love this kind of stuff so I thought I'd comment. Hope you don't mind.
I went on a Jack the Ripper walking tour (and a Harry Potter one, but I digress) in London which was quite interesting and where I learned all the stuff you listed. I was one of those people who was quite surprised to learn he only killed five people.
I've been on that tour! Donald Rumbelow led it, and he's a rather well known Ripperologist. It was an awesome walk...my favourite bit was learning about the church that the local prostitutes used to circle to pick up customers.
It was way cool, yeah. I had no idea who he was when we did the tour, and it wasn't until almost a year later when me and my sister saw him on TV in some Ripper documentary. My sister still has the autographed copy of his book, too.
I thought there were a few other murders that they think might have been the Ripper's? Not during the time of the infamous five, but killed in a similar fashion, though they haven't been ascribed to Jack.
Yes, as I said, the five-victims figure is a matter of some debate. There are two other murders, those of Martha Tabram and Emma Smith, that are sometimes ascribed to Jack, although the method of both killings is sufficiently different that I don't tend to count them. Martha Tabram was stabbed multiple times (37 times, if memory serves) but her throat was not cut and there was no mutilation, and Emma Smith was sexually violated, which was not seen in any of the other Ripper crimes.

VMars was fun. :D The beginning was awkward, but after the Logan/Veronica hotel after sex scene, I think it picked up.
