LJ ineptitude

Dec 13, 2012 11:40

For two weeks, I've been getting emails from LiveJournal every time I log in, saying that I've never logged in from that IP address any more. At one point I'd speculated that they were using tracking cookies to determine this, then changed my mind. It appears that I was right. Here's the relevant part of a response I got today to my support request ( Read more... )

Thanks for the alert - I just got one of those and wasn't sure what to think.

What settings page do I use to disable or enable this feature? I've never gotten such an e-mail alert.

Yes, it's annoying, I get these emails every time.
And I will certainly not stop deleting cookies!
Thanks for inquiring.

If I delete LJ's cookies, I won't stay logged in. Why would i want to delete the cookies?

Not while I'm in. Afterwards.

But then I'd have to log in again the next time I visit LJ. I don't see why that would be beneficial.

I was getting them for about ten days. A minor irritant, but still an irritant. However, without my doing anything to stop them, I have not gotten one for the last three days. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

I logged in today for the first time in a few days, and so far I haven't gotten a warning message. I'd set up a filter to send them straight to the trash, but it's still disconcerting to think that some database on LJ may have been counting up "suspicious logins" on my account, with the possibility of locking me out if there are too many.

Hopefully it's fixed now.

I did get one on the 15th, but none yesterday or today (17th), and I was logged in all three days. One would think they'd be aware of the sheer volume of these going out and deduce that something's not coded right. And also that locking out whole bunches of people when their data is dubious isn't appropriate.
