Lovely; you evoke such bittersweetness here. I love that you focused on Sam's gratitude that he got to spend time with her.

I'm sorry to see Mary go, too, even though I never totally fell in love with her character. I feel like there were missed opportunities, too, and that the writers never really knew what to do with her. I thought it was nice this season the way she was finally firmly in their lives, even if she wasn't around all the time. I would have liked more chances to get to know her and to see her relationship with the boys and with other characters.

Thank you - you're too kind!!!

Exactly! I think they could have done so much more with her, but instead it became that Cas situation, where if she wasn't there they had to explain why (which irritates me!) I think it was time to say goodbye to her, but it did feel like a missed opportunity.

Great drabble. I wondered about the picture, too. I assumed it was his favorite picture of her, and he was offering it up as a kind of sacrifice, but I'm probably reading too much into it. The Winchesters and hunters in general seem to take a lot of their rituals from ancient warrior cultures like the Vikings. I wonder if they burned all her things, too? (Except her journal -- or is that John's journal on the table at her memorial reception in the bunker?)

Yes, it certainly felt like a sacrifice of some sort; like he was giving away something that was her, or something that meant something to him about her. But you're right, it all feels very ritualistic, and I'm probably reading more into it!

I haven't seen the least episode yet, but I would think that they would keep some things of hers; weapons, journals, etc. Even if it's purely practical. Thank you for stopping by :)

I like your take on why he burned the photo, the last line says it all. I'm pleased Sam got a chance to get to know his mom, even if she made a lot of mistakes and didn't seem to appreciate her sons until this season.

Thank you! I kept thinking about that photo, and why he burned it and I liked the idea that he wanted to sacrifice something that was her, because the body wasn't.

I liked what they did with Mary for the most part, but I do think they missed some huge opportunities with her character. Thank you for stopping by :)

An insightful glimpse of what Sam might have been thinking-beautifully done, as ever!
