I like your thoughts on why he chose that picture. That it reminded him of the mom from his dreams, who was "happy and whole and complete."

I feel the same way... sad to see her go, but there were missed opportunities. It's like they knew she'd be gone by the end of the season, so they gave her relationship with the boys some development, but not nearly enough. I would've liked to have known her better.

Thank you for stopping by! I'm happy that you enjoyed the drabble; seeing Sam burn the picture brought a tear to my eye, and I really wanted to focus on his motivations a bit.

I feel the same. I like what they did with her initially and how we got to know the real Mary and not just the mythical Mary of Dean's memories. But after that, it sort of felt like they weren't sure what to do with her, or the family dynamic. It's a shame really; I think they could have done much more with her.
