The Photo
It's Sam's most treasured photo of her. Maybe it's because she looks like the Mom he always pieced together from snippets of Dean and Dad's memories; maybe it's because she looks like the younger version he once met, or the one he used to dream about; the care-free Mom, that could smile like that because she was happy and whole and complete.
Sam Winchester had a Mom, and he got a chance to meet her, to talk to her, to know her.
It's not her body they're burning, but this is her picture, and this is how he'll remember her.
A/N: I'm sad to see Mary go, even though it did feel like there were some missed opportunities with her character (I was hoping for more family time, and flashbacks, and memories). I wanted to focus on Sam burning the photo here, as I wondered why he did it. As always I'd love to hear your thoughts too; on the episode, on the drabble, on everything (just no spoilers please).
