"Kate? It's Tara... Shane and I are on our way home, but, um... we found a kitten. He's tiny and beautiful and very cold and wet... could you throw a towel into the dryer so it'll be hot for him when we come up? And maybe cut up some of the chicken on the bottom shelf of the fridge? I don't know if he's old enough to eat it, but I can't think of anywhere that would sell kitten food this late, and he looks awfully hungry...
Kate? It's Bruce. There's been a robbery at Lee Ching's. I'm supposed to meet a few people. Can you get over here to talk to Mei Li?
[ooc: Bruce is headed out to see if he can find out what's up. He's going to call a few people for back-up. If you come to this post, he'll meet you and tell you what he knows, then you can interview Mei Li NPCly and find out from her that the guy rhymed when he talked, he looked like Santa and had two elves with him. He took food and money.]
Bruce? What...[a distinct impression of one shaking their head] Lee Ching's. That's in...[a pause filled with the rustling of papers] Tortuga? Fine, I can be there in a few minutes.

"It's Freya...I need to talk to you, if maybe you could help me with some stuff...look, it's really important, but off the record. If you could call me back...or something." Her voice sounds really broken up.
((OOC: Sorry, I kept planning to do this, and I kept forgetting))

"Anything I say is going to sound really suspicious, but the problem is that I don't know the whole story, and if I tell you..." she said, then paused. "Sometime Saturday night, there was a murder, I wasn't there, but someone I know was, and he's missing now. And since he isn't...normal, I can't exactly go down and file a report. I just need to know what happened..."

"Kate? Bruce. I, uh, overheard a few things you might want to know about the Claus case. Couple of weeks ago, apparently, a green guy who talked in rhymes scouring the docks for people who hated Christmas and might be willing to do some 'special work' over the holidays. I also heard something about magical disguises."
There was a gentle cough, and then, "It's just scuttlebutt. Still, seemed like I should tell you."

[Slight amusement colours weary words.] Overhead? [A brush of ear against the phone, shake of the head.] Thanks for telling me this, Bruce--we need something more to go on, hearsay or not.
[A pause filled with the scratching of pens and a faint sigh.]

A faint rustle, as Bruce pinned the phone between ear and shoulder, and lifts up his jacket collar to shield the next gentler words. "Hope it helps. You're a good cop, Kate."
With that he clicked off, knowing even though he'd called at home so not to be traceable, she won't respond to the respect, or the growing affection. But she'd know. That was the important thing.
