"Kate? Bruce. I, uh, overheard a few things you might want to know about the Claus case. Couple of weeks ago, apparently, a green guy who talked in rhymes scouring the docks for people who hated Christmas and might be willing to do some 'special work' over the holidays. I also heard something about magical disguises."
There was a gentle cough, and then, "It's just scuttlebutt. Still, seemed like I should tell you."

[Slight amusement colours weary words.] Overhead? [A brush of ear against the phone, shake of the head.] Thanks for telling me this, Bruce--we need something more to go on, hearsay or not.
[A pause filled with the scratching of pens and a faint sigh.]
Ninja magic and rhyming green Scrooges. If this is true, Tropolis beats Fandom in 'omg what the fuck'.

A faint rustle, as Bruce pinned the phone between ear and shoulder, and lifts up his jacket collar to shield the next gentler words. "Hope it helps. You're a good cop, Kate."
With that he clicked off, knowing even though he'd called at home so not to be traceable, she won't respond to the respect, or the growing affection. But she'd know. That was the important thing.
A JamPony courier arrives at Kate's apartment. Bobby, enlisted in Tara's service drops off KateLockley'sBouquet, requesting a confirmatory signature and taking a quick snapshot of the recipient with a disposable camera before moving onto his next job.
The flash captures a soft, sweet grin as she gazes down at the bouquet, eyes shining with tender wonder. The warm expression fades with the light, into one of bewilderment--but she simply thanks Snowcone Bobby the young courier and signs her name.
