As a rule, Kate doesn't open her mail until she comes inside. As another, she goes through junk and routine first. When she finally reads the invitation, her expression turns from thoughtfulness to gladness, wearing a small smile as she resolves to place it on her fridge.
She pulls her necklace from the second with trembling hands, and it takes her several tries to fasten it around her neck. She rereads the note several times, her eyes tracing every curve of every letter as she grasps her cross with her other hand.
She whispers Shane's name and knows she's never, ever taking it off again.
"Hey Kate." There's an awkward pause. "Um, it's Faith. I'm returning your call. I'm fine." Another pause. "Um, I probably should have called to see if you were okay first. Sorry. So. Um. I hope you've been okay."
A long enough pause that it's possible she's hung up. Quietly, she adds, "Um, maybe you wanna go for coffee or something? Catch up on things that don't really involve a evil box?" A slightly embarassed exhalation, and the phone hangs up.

Sometime on Sunday, a courier arrives at Kate's door with a large envelope. Inside is a note and a folded piece of heavy, creamy gold colored parchment. The note reads:
Lady Kate,
Some time ago, Shane commissioned a set of poems for my three favorite muses. This is your copy, with my love.
*warm and happy, but at the same time sounding very faintly anxious* Katie? Uhh, hi, it's me. Um, listen, uh... I was talking to Geoff and he was wondering when might be a good time for you to come hang out with us one night. Whenever would be good for you, just let me know, okay?
