Good news/bad news

Jul 15, 2009 18:31

Well, the good news is that I have a new grandchild!  The bad news is that said child is being cared for by someone who is seriously mentally disturbed, namely my daughter-in-law, who disdains to clean, cook, shop, work, drive, or anything else that might be called adult activity, leaving all such tedious tasks to my disabled son.  More to follow, ( Read more... )

Um, I feel slightly stupid suggesting that, but did you try to take the hard drive from the old comp to, say, Best Buy, and see if they can retrieve the information? There are people who specialize in cases like that.

Good health to your grandchild - that's the most important thing.

I have a favor to ask from you, if you have time to bother. I'm writing a fiction where the main character and a couple of others are singers. Now, despite having spent (mis-spent) all my youth around dancing/singing/acting types I know next to nothing about the technical side of it and I'm afraid of screwing up the factual side badly. Could you give me an advice or two when I have to deal with technical details?

The IT guy at work, who seems to think I Walk On Water (for reasons not entirely clear to me), has offered to try to get what he can from it. I was so disgusted with both myself and the stupid machine that it will take a few days before I can make myself deal with it, but the possibility exists that he might extract something.

As for any writing help, I'm happy to give whatever advice I can. Just let me know what you need.

Thank you. If you might be interested in reading something in a fandom that, I'm pretty sure, you have no idea about, my stories are here - http://www.boyfromkessel.net/Fiction-frontpage.htm The first - By Any Other Name - is the one I'm talking about. The others are slash and with minimal singing involved. :) If you don't want to read, that's totally OK, I'm just giving that link in case you might be bored one rainy day.

The parts I'm working on right now don't include any singing; however, it's planned and I'd really love to know more about the whole rehearsal process, so I would be able to include some details in my descriptions, and I might also need some idea of a vocal lesson (I even thought about taking some classes myself). Mostly, I need someone who can read a scene and tell me what's realistic and what's not.

Depending on how much effort you're willing to expend, the data from your old hard drive might be recoverable. There are businesses who specialise in that kind of thing. Also, nothing is ever really gone from the internet, someone will have copies of everything that was on the site. Unless you're happy to let it go, which is also a completely valid life choice.

Congrats on the new descendant and the new job.

I am feeling rather overwhelmed and under-motivated at the moment. I'll probably get over that, and a guy at work has volunteer to try to revive the stupid machine. Maybe it's salvageable, but I can't seem to get too excited about that at the moment.

And the grandbaby, Little Evie, is a cutie. I hope to have pictures soon.

Pictures would be good.

Also, re your lost drafts, your betas will probably still have things lying around - of chapters you've sent out anyway. Just a thought.

Congratulations! A granddaughter! How thrilling!!! I would love to see pictures of Evie when you get to it (sad about your daughter in law...)

Yikes and waaaah about your writing. I'm so bummed about wordsmiths site. I have all your stories saved from when you first posted them, in case those are earlier versions than are on hlfiction. When you're more in the mood, ask me, if there's any you might want.

I'm sorry to hear that you're not singing or even taking lessons now. Damn, but work always just gets in the way.

{{{MacG}}}} Sending good thoughts and hugs to you.
