Marty-Stuing and the art of superpowers

I assume someone somewhere has been graciously reminding people that The Wonderland Subject exists, as I've gotten a sudden influx of messages about it. One of them reminded me that I wanted to address something that more than a few people have said about the story, particularly the last few chapters. (That means there are SPOILERS in the upcoming ( Read more... )

TVTropes has a saying that shows up occasionally in pages about fanfiction, recommendations, and (I think) one-sentence premises that goes along with the 90% crap argument:

The last ten percent is worth dying for.

Pessimist that I am, I would say 1% if worth dying for. The other 9% might not be crap, but it's not exactly amazing.

Still, I get your drift and agree.

Anything new will show up here first. Older stuff I haven't archived here yet can usually be found on Twisting the Hellmouth or I Need a Parrot. Older stuff I haven't archived here yet that you can't find on those sites...well there's usually a reason for that.

Well thought out and insightful. However since you mentioned The Wonderland Subject without having a new part for us is evil. I understand that you're not writing at the moment but is it really necessary to rub it our faces that those are great fics that you're not writing?

Definitely agree that the 10% can show up anywhere.

And you cannot fathom how much I wanted to add on, "After all, that's exactly how much of our brains we use!" just to see if I could hear you grinding your teeth all the way from here. =)

These days I wouldn't be at all surprised to know I only use 10% of my brain.

Most of my stories come from me wanting to read a story that doesn't exist, so I'm forced to go write it. I don't know how many other authors do that, but I would assume a bunch of them do. If I had a machine that could churn out stories for me based on my ideas, I wonder if I would ever have written a single word of fiction in my entire life ( ... )
