Medication makes the world go 'round.

Sep 20, 2009 23:50

So thanks to my flu I am temporarily off my most recent migraine medication. What does this mean? First, it means I have a whopping migraine. Hooray. Second, it means I am temporarily in full control of my faculties again. So I figure I might as well say this now:

Ranting, writing, braining, self-indulging, and maybe a little whining. )

ego, random complaining, writing thoughts

I'm genuinely surprised whenever someone friends me these days, if only because I don't exactly get around on LiveJournal. Still, thanks for doing so.

Really hope you get to feeling better, and not just 'cause of the fics. I've had me a migraine or a thousand, and I certainly wouldn't wish chronic pains like that on anyone.

Forget foley artists. You ought'a do a rant about giant battle station designers and the small, "impossible" to hit weaknesses they put in.

I cannot, in any engineering sense, accept that a moon-sized battle station could actually get by with an exhaust port two meters wide. I call scifi bullshit.

You've failed to take into account intentional sabotage on the parts of the designers.

"What's that?"

"That? Oh, uh..."

"Cause it kind of looks like a direct line to the reactor core that a single missile could be fired into, which would destroy the entire invincible battlestation."

"What? Ha! You crazy, man. That's an exhaust port. Yeah. That's what it is. An exhaust port."

"I dunno, looks an awful lot like a direct line to the rea--"

"Look, if it makes you feel any better, toss a couple of automated turrets along the trench leading up to it. Guy'd have to be some kind of mystical wizard to fly through that trench with those turrets there."

"I guess you're right. Okay, carry on."

"Whew."

I don't know whether to be upset or laugh.

Unfortunately, that's a pretty common reaction when reading your journal.

I have had the festival o' migraines, and it does indeed suck. My luck? The migraine guy I saw did not give me any cool drugs at all, just told me to go off everything because I was getting rebound headaches. Srsly. And all I ever took in the first place was ibuprofen. I went 6 weeks with nothing, then changed to using naproxen, which fortunately works for me and doesn't give me rebound headaches.

And if it cheers you up at all, it's several years later and it's been a long time since I last had a migraine. Like a year or more. (I have no idea if it was due to that guy and his advice; I actually thought he was kind of a nutjob.) Just sayin', they might just stop screwing with you so thoroughly someday. I hope so.

I managed to go for years and years getting maybe one or two migraines a year. Then about four years ago I started getting them maybe once or twice a month. Then about five months ago I started getting them four or five times a week.

Fun.

I've found a few triggers for them, mostly relating to sleep (which is fun when you're already an insomniac) and fast food (a good reason to not eat McDonald's) but even then they just keep on coming, so medication is definitely a must.

I do hold a secret hope that they will suddenly go away the same way they suddenly started, cause this is craptastic with a side of ohgodthepain. Considering the randomness and unpredictability of migraines, I suppose there's a chance.

Get well soon, man.

As for the fic thing, first of all your blog is interesting for more reasons than just the fic. Second, even if it was just fic (which again, it's not), your fics are so great that it should be anybody's goddamn honor to check your blog every week for as many weeks as it takes for things to work out that you had written something new.

I mean, for fuck's sake. Who gets free awesome amazing stuff, and then immediately starts complaining that they aren't getting *enough* free amazing awesome stuff? Stupid internet.

But mostly, get well soon Mac. I can't imagine the suck of your own brain hating you. And I'm sorry if I compromised my well issues with my mini-rant about internet ingratitude.

Hey I prefer ranting to well wishes any day of the week. People being nice to me freaks me right the hell out. I am much more comforted by people being nasty towards others, preferably others that I already don't like.

But I do appreciate the nice words all the same.

I tried to find something mean to say just to make you feel better, find something you can rant about... but my mind was blank, so I'm going for the old faithful standby.

god Damn those fools for Brand New Day! The only thing they did right there was give us geeks something to rant about when rants are running low! Other than that, get well and hey the crazy stuff is fun too! A lot of fun, leaves me confuddled but fun.
