...and then I lost my fish

Yes yes, this is two work stories in one day, because just as I finished posting the last one, I turned around to say good morning to Seymour and he was lying sideways at the bottom of the tankI gasped and covered my mouth, stood up quickly and ran over to Cici and Jeannie. "The..fish...Seymour," I gasped out and they ran to the tank and both ( Read more... )

For what it's worth, I hear that actually does happen to fish sometimes.

Well he's now taken his shit and he's still lying sideways struggling for air. Poor little thing. I almost feel sorry for him...

You've over-fed him. Let him be. If he's not better in two or three days, then it's a lost cause. Usually they right themselves after a few shits.

Oh, I didn't see the part where you put ALL THE FOOD in the tank in response. Please try to take as much of it out as you can. Their stomachs are INCREDIBLY small, and most people make the mistake of over-feeding them, which is why the myth persists that they die so quickly.

I moved him from that tank to the small one this morning, where there was no food. If this fish makes a recovery I am going to die.

Really? I haven't fed him in three days! Though now I'm going to stop feeling guilty. He's a tough little bugger that's for sure. I think he's already lived way beyond a usual goldfish's life span, anyway.

Perhaps now is the time to admit that Seymour's tank hasn't been cleaned in ... almost eight weeks. I am a busy lady, OKAY?

Ah. Unfortunately, you may have poisoned him by not cleaning the tank regularly. If the tank hasn't been cleaned in some time, there's the opportunity for waste poisoning and rancid water poisoning. I don't know. Keep him in a very clean tank in proper water for goldfish and see what happens.

(Yes, I know way too much about goldfish. This is yet another indication of reading too much about my pets when I was a kid.)

Hence my nickname at the office: Fishkiller. It's not that I *try* to kill them, they just keep dying under my care. You'd think someone would take them off my hands at this point, but somehow no one has stepped up.

*laughs* Yes! He is! We keep telling him to go home to Esta. She's waiting for him! There was debate on whether that would be Seymour's heaven or hell. ;)

You KNOW that if he croaks someone is gonna bring you another fish to kill, don't you? Cuz they enjoy your fishkilling (sorta)remorse.

You didn't get a potato, but soon you could have fishsticks...

*laughs* I KNOW. It's going to be a revolving fish bonanza over here. I don't know why they want to do this to the fish!
