Angel continued to look down at Sam as the baby babbled and pointed at the rain drops sliding down the glass. He was an amazing child and intelligent like his parents. There were so many times when Angel would walk into the nursery and find Sam inspecting one of his toys, trying to find out how it worked. And when the boy was concentrating, he looked like the perfect combination of both his parents

"We love you too," Fred told Angel, watching as Sam rested against Angel's chest and closed his eyes. He had always seemed to find lying against him comforting, and it never failed to make Fred want to melt when she watched the two of them like that

Angel knew Fred was right. Wesley loved his son more than anything. They'd had long conversations in the office of the hotel at nights, talking about Wesley's fears of becoming like his own father. Angel understood since his father wasn't all that fatherly toward him. And when Sam was born, the look in Wesley's eyes spoke volumes

When she felt Angel slip away from her, Fred tried to open her eyes, but they still felt heavy, so she let her eyes close again and snuggled down under the covers for a little while longer. Sam was in good hands with Angel, and there was still time before they had to be out the door to head to the doctor's

Angel continued to stare at the old lady as his hand twitched, wanting to shut the door. He was about to when Fred come up behind him and started to talk to her. Angel kept his eyes on their visitor but wavered a bit when she made it sound like Wes was still alive. Angel shook his head and looked at Fred, wanting to tell her not to believe it

Fred knew that Angel had to be right - this had to be a trick. After all, he had seen Wesley die, and she knew that he would never lie to her. He had cared about Wesley too, had been his best friend

Angel stood perfectly still and listened to Fred. The sensible side of him knew she was right, and knew they needed to find out for sure if Wes were alive or not. Wes had been his best friend and when he'd watched him die, he felt his world crumble around him. Now there was a chance he was alive. Fred would have the love of her life back and Sam would have his father - his real father - back

When Angel promised that they'd work everything out once they found Wesley, Fred nodded, closing her eyes briefly when he kissed her. She wasn't even sure what she was going to do - all she knew was that she loved two men, and one of those men needed their help

Angel made a mental list of everything Fred was saying. They would be prepared this time, unlike when they went to Pylea to find Cordelia. He also agreed with her thoughts on taking Sam with them. They could protect him well enough and Angel knew he would make sure the baby would be safe from anything that may come their way.
After taking Sam to his appointment, they spent the rest of the day packing and closing up the house. Angel called Anne and asked her to check on the house at times, since he didn't know when they'd be back. Once everything was packed and in the car, Angel helped Fred get Sam ready and put him in his car seat. Taking Fred's hand, he led her down to the car.
An hour later, the arrived at the designated spot. Angel handed Fred the book and then turned in his seat to make sure Sam was secured in his car seat. He then pulled his own seat belt tighter, remembering the bumpy ride they'd experienced when going through the portal to Pylea.
The rest of the day was almost a blur as they took Sam to his appointment and then got ready for their trip to Oriens. Fred found herself almost trembling a few times, partly because of the possibility that they might be seeing Wesley again, partly because she about to willing go through a portal to another dimension

Angel sat in the car, his finger tightly around the steering wheel, as Fred said the spell. When the portal opened, he took an unneeded breath and pushed hard on the gas when Fred told him to go. They flew through the portal and suddenly dropped, the tires rubbing against some sort of surface. Angel pumped the brakes and they finally came to a stop

"I'm ready," he said, looking over at her.
