When Angel promised that they'd work everything out once they found Wesley, Fred nodded, closing her eyes briefly when he kissed her. She wasn't even sure what she was going to do - all she knew was that she loved two men, and one of those men needed their help.
Letting him go when he pulled away, Fred opened her eyes and watched him plan. The car, of course, would be needed. She remembered how they had all piled into Angel's car when they had returned, her sitting in between Wesley and Angel, wanting to cling to both of them, Angel because he was her handsome man who had saved her from the monsters, Wesley because he was smart and knew what was going on and helped her figure out what she had been doing wrong. She had know that both of them could protect her if the world she was returning to had changed too much.
Now, they would be bringing Wesley home.
"Tonight," she agreed, looking down at the book. She knew Angel had to be right about the passage in the book that hadn't changed. "I think I can read this. It looks close to one of the demon languages that Wesley was...that he was teaching me before...so I think I can do it."
She stood up, setting the book on the desk, her brow furrowing when Angel asked about Sam. "We can't leave him," she said without hesitation. With everything that had happened before, there was no way she was going to go off to another dimension, leaving her son behind. Lorne was far away in Vegas, and there was no one left around that she trusted otherwise. "I think we can take him. We have to take him. I don't want to leave him behind."
She took a deep breath. "We should start getting ready, pack some clothes and food and things like that to take with us, just in case. I can get Sam's stuff together. Do you think we should take some books too? Maybe some of the ones on demon languages?" She wrung her hands together and realized that she probably was getting a little too worked up over this. "I'm sorry; I just...I don't want this to be like last time when I wasn't prepared."
Angel made a mental list of everything Fred was saying. They would be prepared this time, unlike when they went to Pylea to find Cordelia. He also agreed with her thoughts on taking Sam with them. They could protect him well enough and Angel knew he would make sure the baby would be safe from anything that may come their way.
After taking Sam to his appointment, they spent the rest of the day packing and closing up the house. Angel called Anne and asked her to check on the house at times, since he didn't know when they'd be back. Once everything was packed and in the car, Angel helped Fred get Sam ready and put him in his car seat. Taking Fred's hand, he led her down to the car.
An hour later, the arrived at the designated spot. Angel handed Fred the book and then turned in his seat to make sure Sam was secured in his car seat. He then pulled his own seat belt tighter, remembering the bumpy ride they'd experienced when going through the portal to Pylea.
The rest of the day was almost a blur as they took Sam to his appointment and then got ready for their trip to Oriens. Fred found herself almost trembling a few times, partly because of the possibility that they might be seeing Wesley again, partly because she about to willing go through a portal to another dimension.
The scars from Pylea were still with her, literally with the ones that criss-crossed her lower back and figuratively with the memories that still haunted her dreams on occasion. The idea of going somewhere else, somewhere different from her home, where there were obviously demons, was frightening, but she just had to remember that this place was different. Wesley was there, and he was apparently their Prince.
She just prayed that the book was telling them the truth, and that Wesley being the Scholar Prince wasn't anything like Cordelia being the Princess in Pylea.
By the time they were ready to go, Fred held Sam tightly in her arms as they walked out to the car. "We're going for a trip," she whispered to him softly. "And if all goes well, you're going to meet someone very special. Someone you haven't seen in a long time."
She kissed his forehead before they put him in his seat and then squeezed Angel's hand. Before she got into the car, she leaned up and kissed him softly on lips, giving him a loving smile. Not too long later, it seemed, they were sitting at Point Dume. Taking the book, Fred turned to the page and began chanting softly, hoping she was saying the words right.
As she said them, she could feel the hairs on the back of her neck prickle as the energy in the air got stronger. Green fingers appeared in front of them, seeming to grab the dark sky and pull it apart as though it were forcing a set of double doors open.
"Angel, now," she said as she finished the spell.
Moments later, the car seemed to drop a couple of feet...right onto a platform. Next to a castle. In broad daylight.
Angel sat in the car, his finger tightly around the steering wheel, as Fred said the spell. When the portal opened, he took an unneeded breath and pushed hard on the gas when Fred told him to go. They flew through the portal and suddenly dropped, the tires rubbing against some sort of surface. Angel pumped the brakes and they finally came to a stop.
It wasn't until Fred said something that Angel noticed the sun. He started to grabbed around for something to cover himself up with but couldn't find anything. He looked up and saw the two suns. "Oh. There's two suns!" he happily said. He bounced out of the car and looked up to allow the sun to warm his skin.
He was about to say something to Fred when he felt something jab his back. Angel turned and came face-t0-face with several people wearing bright colored clothes, and holding some sort of weapon.
"Who are you and why have you tried to defile the castle?" One of them asked.
"Um, we're here because we're looking for a friend. His name is Wesley. He's about this tall and--."
One of them pushed forward and stared at Angel for a moment. "Vampire," he said before he turned and looked at Fred and Sam. "It's them!"
"Them?" Someone else asked.
"The three others. The one the prophecy spoke of. They aren't dead," he said as he turned and looked at his cohorts. "Prince Wesley must be told that they are alive."
"So, you're going to take us to see Wes then?" Angel asked as he gave Fred a hopeful look.
"Yes," the man said. "Come along. You can wait downstairs for him." He then turned and started toward the castle.
"Ready?" Angel asked as he watched Fred get Sam out of his seat.
Fred gave him a nervous look. "I can't believe...if Wesley's...yes, I'm ready," she said as she reached out and took Angel's hand. They were going to go in together.
Angel squeezed her hand and both of them walked into the castle, and waited to see if Wes was really alive.
