As a non smoker (mostly) I find this an idiotic law.

I can almost understand restaurants, since people go there with children, etc.

I don't understand why bars, a place where people go primarily to destroy their bodies with toxins, must be free of smoke. I do not think it is a god given (or state given) right to go to bars, if you don't like smoking don't go to bars.

Does this ban cover smoking in the street in front of the bars? If so I think bar owners are going to see business dropping.

I think bars are going to lose a lot of business because of this. I for one don't fancy the idea of having to run outside everytime I want to smoke. I can really see it getting old fast and just staying home.

unfortunately, the statistics people proposing these bans keep coming up with don't support that. (i'm not saying they are right or not skewed!)

There are plenty of people who are too wimpy for a little smoke and avoid bars/clubs for that reason. (now i don't know if they are as gluttonous of drinkers, or if they stay as long).. but im sure they factor in..

The "City Property" part is the only part of the smoking ban I agree with.

I agree with not in front of the courthouse or even Civic Plaza, I'm just not sure I can agree with in public parks. I mean the odds that I am going to be smoking right next to someone at a park are slim to none. Though, there are those who don't have respect of other peoples personal bubbles when it comes to it. I have always been fairly good about keeping it a way from small children and those who do not like it. Also, one of the things I was taught at a young age was to never drop a lit smoke in the woods and to take the butt with you. It's become a "dirty" habbit because there are those who are just plain lazy.

By which I mostly meant "I agree they can make the rules there, because it's their property."

I took my mom out for dinner at our regular bar for our last dinner with her smoking at the table.

I mean, it's not all that bad. I want to quit smoking so it's only going to make it that much easier. I just don't like that there is such restriction on it. If it's that big of a deal why not just out law it. I am reminded of how the giant companies got a way with firing people who were smoking in their free time. I can understand restaurants not wanting you to smoke during a shift. It smells bad but really in bars? I just don't see why it's that horrible. I know that there are those who have a serious allergic reaction to the smoke. Though, there are clubs that had made the choice to become non-smoking anyway. OPM on Fridays and Saturdays has the upstairs as non-smoking but you have to walk through the crowd of smokers to get there.
Anyway... It's just weird to me...

I think we all know where prohibition leads. Outlawing tobacco would only funnel money into illegal operations that provided it ( ... )
