"but this is barely the tip of the iceberg of the many "rights" we are losing day by day. "

It's seriously not the smoking ban that pisses me off... It's these words right here. I could care less about smoking in a bar or not. I want to quit anyway, really it's just going to make it that much easier. I hate that our "free" country is less and less so. It's frustrating to see each day another of our rights as "free" citizens lost. Yes, there are things that can be done but America as a whole is a lazy society. We bitch, moan, and complain but when it comes down to fighting the battle most would rather just watch our rights fly right out the window. This is what is rage inspiring to to me.
As for working or playing in bars... You know what you will have to put up with in a bar when you apply to work there, or when you play a show there. As they say, it comes with the territory...
Not even 20 years ago smoking was a way of life. Women were told to smoke during pregnancy to lower birth weight. It was acceptable even promoted. Now though it's not. I just don't understand how smoking is so bad when alcohol is clearly a drug with the same or worse consequences to health. Alcohol is as terrible as heroin or worse. If you become dependant on it and quit it will kill you. If you drink too much all the time it will kill you... It is as addicting as cigs and no one cares that people are out drinking themselves into oblivion.
The whole of the subject is a double edged sword. There is no right or wrong here. It's a matter of opinion but if you think about it we are slowly being restricted, we are slowly being conditioned to accept the changes as they come. One day we will wake up and realize that we are no longer a free country. We will have curfews and designated everything. Our children and their children will know no better because they were born into it. It's a way of life and perhaps that is just how things go...
Ok I totally feel like I just rewrote Demolition Man.
