8 Author's Note: Many thanks to
stl29tide for being an awesome beta. You rock! Also many thanks to
alissablue for once again helping me out with totally EPIC research. :D Nearly two months have passed since the end of Save Me (Save Me ended at the end of January - it's the middle of March now). Luke and Reid are still living together, but still adjusting to their relationship. Luke's life seems to have settled down, until he and and Lily do a TV interview that sets of a chain reaction of events no one could have predicted.
Luke bit his lip.
“What note, Luke?” Reid repeated, looking from him to his parents and back.
“My mother got a note that said “Stop defending perverts and sinners or you’ll live to regret it.” Luke finally answered. Reid stared at him for a second.
“And you didn’t think this was pertinent information?” Reid asked, his voice tinged with anger. “Shouldn’t I know if someone’s threatening my boyfriend?”
“Reid…” Luke squeezed his hand. “It was nothing. I didn’t see any reason to worry you.”
“Someone hit you with a car, Luke.”
“I know that.”
“And you don’t think the two are connected?” Reid sounded incredulous and Luke winced.
“We can’t jump to the worst possible scenario.” Luke replied, pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger.
“Damn it, Luke. You could have died.”
“Don’t you think I know that?” Luke snapped, and regretted it, moaning when the room spun and his head pounded so hard that he could hear the blood rushing past his ears.
They were interrupted by Margo then, letting them know she had no new information, but requesting that Lily, Holden and Noah go down to the station with her and answer some questions.
His parents said goodbye quickly, intent on finding out who had hurt him. Noah looked awkward and unsure for a moment before he finally took Luke’s hand and squeezed it.
He and Luke shared a long look and then Noah was gone too, leaving Luke alone with his pissed off boyfriend.

“Reid, I’m sorry.” Luke whispered. “I honestly thought it was nothing. If I had thought for one second that the nutjob who wrote that note was serious, I would have told you.” Reid nodded slowly, a pained look in his eyes.
“Luke, if anything happens to you…” Reid trailed off, his eyes darting around the room as if he was looking for an escape. Maybe he was.
“If you can’t…I know this is hard for you.” Luke told him. “I get it if you need to bail.”
“Bail?”
“Leave.”
“You want me to go?”
“God, no.” Luke replied. “I just know that you don’t deal well with the emotional stuff.”
“Do you need me here?” Reid asked.
“Always.” Luke told him. “I always need you.”
“Then I’m staying.”

Reid felt his pager vibrate against his leg and sighed. Luke had just fallen asleep. He checked the page, and got up. One of his post-op patients - he had to go look in on them. He turned off the light in Luke’s room and let himself out the door.
He looked up at saw a nurse at the station, one of Luke’s friends.
“Nurse…ah, Stewart.” Reid got her attention, pausing to read her name badge.
“What can I do for you Dr. Oliver?”
“I got paged away. Luke’s asleep, but if he wakes up before I get back, will you tell him I’ll be back as soon as I can?”
“Sure.” Reid started to turn and walk away, and then paused.
“Thanks.”
“Anytime.” Allison smiled at him, and then Reid headed for the elevator.
*
Luke was sound asleep, eyes twitching behind his eyelids.
He barely registered someone taking his hand. Rousing slightly, he smiled in his sleep, and squeezed the hand as he slowly woke.
“You can’t get enough of me, can you Reid?” He murmured, rolling his head and opening his eyes. His eyes flew open as he realized the man standing next to his bed, holding his hand, was not his boyfriend.
It was someone he’d never thought he’d ever see again.
His father.
“Damian.” Luke uttered, staring at him in shock.
