Pine martens have been popping up in my dreams lately. I've always had a special "relationship" with Mustelids in general, but never such an intense focus on one species. Last night it was Martens and thunderstorms. And then I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep because of my back hurting ( Read more... )

You have the Paraguard right? I just got a Mirena yesterday...I was so looking forward to it, and I really hope I don't have the issues you've had :(

Yep - Paragard. And honestly, it was smooth sailing until quite recently (I've had it for nearly 5 years)... well, after the settling in period! I'm not sure what changed. I'm considering it was actually from my pap and this doctor was rather rough (haven't used her before) and I just haven't HEALED from that yet even though it was in November. My cervix started being sore then, and it has always been sore for weeks after a pap, so...

Part of my chagrin is I'm just FED UP with me always being the one responsible for birth control, y'know? Before the IUD I suffered through multiple kinds of HBC, all of which made me seriously ill. I spent SO much money trying to figure out a solution. I'm allergic to latex and wouldn't trust JUST condoms anyway. They need to make more BC options for MEN and give us women a break. I could continue to rant because this is a sore spot for me!

Good luck with the Mirena! If you cramp or bleed heavily in the settling in period, try the 3x3x3 with ibuprophen and take some vitamin E. Both really helped me :

Ugh, I hope you get it figured out!

I totally agree, there need to be more options for men! It's awesome that Brian is considering a vasectomy, but I wish there was a completely reversible option for men who wants kids. I would actually probably still do some kind of hormone because I really hate bleeding (and I love hormones because they prevent bleeding and my body is ok with them) and I like having at least 2 methods of birth control. I'm not allergic to latex, but I really dislike it. But at least the financial burden is no longer on just women, at least with certain kinds of insurance.

I was on the pill for 4 years, so bleeding isn't an issue right now, but I'm still having some very mild cramping, and I don't want to take ibuprofen for too long, so I may try some vitamin E. Thanks!

There are some completely reversible options for men in the world right now that are safer than birth control for woman. The most exciting I've heard about was an option invented by an Indian Dr. (quick link I found on it: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/04/ff_vasectomy/) that is MORE effective than vasectomies and any birth control given to women. That's an old article, and last I heard it had passed trials with flying colors and is being implemented in some areas of India. Of course, because it's so cheap and effective (last 10 years I believe, and is easily reversible) no one in the U.S. will back it here... because the damn insurance agencies won't make money! I've actually been told by a doctor that it's a horrible idea because then they won't make money on unplanned pregnancy! Can you tell I have another rant about US healthcare, fighting to get out?! Ha ( ... )

Sounds rough. I am soooooo glad we get free contraceptives in this country. I'm on a pill that means NO periods! Woohoo! Downside is that one of its side effects is reduction of libido. Though I suppose that makes it a doubly effective contraceptive! :-)

My friends Mike & Marie got so fed up of relatives interfering in their wedding plans, demanding that Auntie Ethel who they hadn't seen since they were two was there, etc etc that they went to a Registry Office, got hitched there and didn't tell their parents until 3 weeks later. They gave friends that lived in the same town a few days warning, so we turned up to throw confetti at them outside the Registry Office.

Brian and I were always planning on eloping (going to the local courthouse and having a judge marry us!) but I made the mistake of telling my sister that when she was hassling me constantly. Now I'm not sure what to do. Ideally we'd still elope without telling anyone beforehand, but my sister likes to threaten how her life will have no point if she can't be there. I realize it's emotional blackmail, of course, but she's also is manic depressive and could very well try and kill herself. Ugh. THIS is one huge reason I don't want a wedding. My family is nuts ( ... )

*hugs* I found a greetings card once that said "Friends are God's way of apologising for your family" :-)

It still boggles me that you guys have to pay for an ambulance. That's just WRONG on so many levels!
