And, being me, this makes me want to write up a pseudanthropology of the Beaker People encoding some sort of spiritual/religious message. Considering that it is an exoteric nonsecret that I chose the syllable mup out of all possible syllables for the name of the religion I'm creating in order to call its practitioners muppets (because Jim Henson died for your sins), this would make perfect sense!
You know, it's kind of interesting to consider that Henson was raised with that particular form of New Thought (based upon a world-as-omnibenevolent-God's-Mind cosmology) in light of my understanding of Sesame Street. Namely that Sesame Street's main (original) appeal was that it postulated that the following three things were true:
1. You are a child living in the inner city at a time in history when that is often a very difficult, dirty place. 2. You have an imagination. 3. The previous two things, in combination, and in light of (and NOT in spite of) one another, equal AWESOME!
(This triad of points is why the first season got a "Not For Kids" label when they released it on DVD.)
In some ways, Jim Henson is very literally responsible for my interest in magick.
