Muppets fans and prehistory scholars, beware of bad puns! I present to you....the Beaker People!
So while making dead critter art, I've been spending a LOT of time watching/listening to documentaries on Netflix. I've been on a big history and pre-history tear, so I've been watching docs about human evolution from the very roots in Africa all the way up to recorded history. That coupled with a series of shows about the history of the dark ages and Renaissance in Western Europe got me thinking about how people got there in the first place, where the Brythonic Celts came from (before the Normans and the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons hit the island), etc.
And so I found out about
the Beaker People, a set of cultures that inhabited Western Europe in the late Neolithic and early Bronze ages. And....well...this drawing was the result of the horrible pun that came to mind. I hope you all enjoy the illustrated bad pun at least as much as we did here in Casa de Lupa.
As we can see here, Beaker comes by his haplessness rather honestly. His ancestors fared no better, and just as he manages to meep through life with unparalleled poor fortune and well-nigh-impossible immortality, so his predecessors were able to survive the worst their environment could throw at them, though not without a great deal of havoc.
The one on the left is being chased by a wild boar, a fairly common critter in Western Europe at the time, and NOT someone you want to mess with. The two on the right are sitting in a vessel of the style for which the Beaker People were named in the first place. And, of course, fire. Beaker still hasn't figured it out for himself, so it's not surprising that it was a family tradition going back millenia.
Shaped by their experiences, the descendants of the Beaker People throughout history have gravitated (despite their best efforts otherwise) toward hazardous occupations, such as aurochs castrator, reluctant heckler of temperamental nobility, and laboratory assistant.
Anyway, enjoy :)

Apologies for the crappy scan and off colors--the scanner didn't like colored pencils very well. Apologies also for the fact that I can't really draw very well and there are mistakes EVERYWHERE.
