I’ve just added up my word count for this year, from Jan 1 to now, and I’ve already surpassed 50k just in fic ( Read more... )

I think you should go for it--writing an original novel. I really see fanfic as an attempt to come up with a workable story--in the case of a plot structure that works--featuring characters with which you are familiar. And there is the whole stress of coming up with an acceptable word count. If you're writing an AU in a historical period, there is the issue of research. Once you've got used to doing this sort of thing as a matter of course, the next step is to write original fiction.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. The original idea I've been mulling over isn't historical, it's set in the near future, but it will still involve research into certain topics.

:D Congratulations on your writing. I still need to read your most recent update.

Not to be a downer, but there is a slight difference between writing 50K total for lots of stories and writing a single story 50K long.

But if you've got the ideas for a full novel I have the utmost faith that you could do it.

No worries, I definitely agree with you on that. I've never written a story that is over 30k-40k just on its own, so that's a challenge in itself.

Thank you :D

How is your summer? I've been trying to keep up with your writing too but I need to go back and check that I haven't missed entries.

I'm doing okay thanks. Just spent a week at my friend's house.

Expecting to have to do more revisions/resubmit my project though. Which is disappointing.

Sounds like fun! The visiting with friends bit, not the re-submitting project bit. I have my fingers crossed for your assignment--I'm sure it'll all work out : )

Go for it! You can do it! Woo Woo Woo

That's what I'm doing. I'm slowly making my way through my o-fic. I will be happy to give feedback too if you like. I know how important that is. If I have one piece of advice for writing orig fic is don't beat yourself up about it. Writing O-fics are a little harder than fanfic because you have to build everything from scratch.

What kind of genre are you thinking of writing in, fantasy?

I've been meaning to read your original story, it looks very interesting. At this point all I have is some general ideas so I really need to make a document and start writing notes for what this world is going to be like ( ... )

Eeeek, that sounds like it could be very dark premise. I love it! In fact, I can almost see you making it horror with people trying to consume you. Do you like to write dark?

Of course, whenever I think of albinism, I always think of the stunning, beautiful Diandra Forrest.

I love the idea of having a character that is set apart from the collective, because it's always such an exciting dynamic.

I really want to write a story with a protagonist with albinism to break down all the stereotypes associated with the disorder. Plus, it's frustrating to never find a character like yourself in books, and I'm sure there are other people with albinism (or even people who just feel different) who'd identify with that.

I definitely think I'll include people trying to hurt/capture the main character. It probably sounds like insane behavior for "civilized" first world countries, but I think people would do these things if they were truly desperate to live.

Omg I love Diandra Forest! I wish there had been more models like her when I was growing up, it would have been great to see that there are other people with albinism who are considered beautiful and having it is not something that automatically makes you undesirable.

That's super exciting! Any idea what you'd write about?

It is kind of exciting to think about. My only worry is that I won't have much time to work on it next year at law school ( ... )

From my experience, one gets so tired writing for school that one doesn't have the energy for writing for pleasure. However, I'm not the most diligent; perhaps you'll be better!

Okay, that's a fantastic idea. Please start it soon and link us so we can enjoy!
