It is kind of exciting to think about. My only worry is that I won't have much time to work on it next year at law school.
I gave a little summary in another comment but I'll paste it here too.
It's going to be a mix of fantasy, science fiction, and romance. I'm going to set it one or two generations in the future, so not really futuristic but enough for plenty of things to be different. In this 'verse there has been a new virus that has spread to all the countries in the world and it is fairly deadly. A good amount of people live through it and are left with some level of disfigurement, like scarring or damage to their nervous system, etc.
The main character has albinism and I was basing it off the stereotypes surrounding albinism in real life (the idea that if you have sex with a person with albinism you'll be cured of HIV). In this world people think they will be safe from the virus if they sleep with someone with albinism, or if they consume some part of the person's body. That's also based off a superstition about albinism in some parts of the world--people think that if you consume parts of the person's body you will become healthier/etc.
So the character has to hide their albinism to protect themselves from all these desperate people who are afraid of catching the virus. I have some other details/ideas floating around but that's the main concept.
From my experience, one gets so tired writing for school that one doesn't have the energy for writing for pleasure. However, I'm not the most diligent; perhaps you'll be better!
Okay, that's a fantastic idea. Please start it soon and link us so we can enjoy!
