On Tumblr, there's been a minor kerfuffle about crediting artists, and I thought some of the responses to it were interesting.

Someone posted a graphic, white text on a black background (this one), without linking or crediting the original artist. The person who created this saw it, reblogged it and added, "Here’s some goddammed, dumb ass fool ( Read more... )

I guess the whole Facebook/Twitter scare comes mostly from people not understanding how it works exactly and how much of it can seep over there without you noticing.
If it would have been explained better there probably wouldn't be such a fuss about it.

Yeah, LJ didn't do themselves any favours when they didn't explain what & how very clearly )=

I don't think I mind people posting their own comments, depending on whether or not they're quoting me.

It could be quite handy to cross-post my own comments, especially on some of the feminist or fan journals, to save me repeating myself :)

Yeah, for the most part I've got no problems with it...

That's a good point XD I tend to express myself better on LJ than I do on FB or Twitter anyway.

Actually, it's a little worse than that. Say I comment on one of your posts and then repost it to Facebook with some offhand reference to your identity. Then everyone can connect your RL name with your LJ username. Worse than that, it doesn't matter if your post itself is locked. Content from the locked post appears publicly on my Facebook.

Hopefully, LJ will fix it quick. While I trust my flist and don't expect any problems, I don't like having that kind of vulnerability.

I do see why that worries people, and I don't think it's fair that they didn't include an opt out.

I had seen so many frothing at the mouth though, which I think is a bit of an overwrought response, although a lot of people have calmed down, which is good.

I agree with you on the "Repost to FB, Twitter" thing. I know nothing will reach my facebook, since the only people on it are RL stuffs, so I'm not going to be all "Here, why don't you read the extremely suggestive fanfiction I write about two real guys? Or look here, at these crude drawings of two boys kissing." Also, I don't have a twitter, so I'm safe all around. ^_^

I'm also not too worried since for the most part, the people I have on Facebook don't have any of my LJ friends added, so how is anyone I know even going to see this stuff?

Still, I do wish they'd included a journal opt-out, I think a lot of people would have felt safer.
