I got nothin'

- Someone, possibly in Austin, ganged up my car. There's a hood tag written in Sharpie on the passenger side front door of the ChickWagon. My hope is that other local thugs will follow suit, transforming my beat-up ride into a graffed-up masterpiece, but I'm not entirely confident in that hope ( Read more... )

I tend to try and buy my clothes on sale to maximize purchase potential, despite that, I do have a number of items that are a touch pricey. For instance, I've got a suit that cost $400 and a tie that I paid $75 for. i don't think about cost a lot though. Good gear is worth good money in my opinion.

See, I can totally understand the suit -- I paid around $450 for my best one -- but how do you pay $75 for a tie? I always thought the silk ties I wear were kinda pricey at around $30.

I was having a problem finding a tie to match my olive suit, and the sales people spent about 20 minutes searching their stock to find one that didn't clash. I eventually found one that I liked, a really nice black tie with a black paisley pattern that was at once simple and elegant, which is what I demand of style. It was $150 though. And that was too much at that juncture. So I settled for the next one which was also nice, but turned out to be $75.

The only tie I have that isn't silk is the black cotton one the Army issued me. I don't wear it, I just keep it in my closet to remind me that the Army makes shitty ties.

Wait, you had to buy a handgun? I thought you got assigned one once you had a Texas address.

Vincent D'Onofrio is still a little bit hot, so I think you should feel okay about that.

I own a faux-fur coat that cost $220 on sale, that's probably the most expensive piece of clothing I own; no wait, the $240 ball gown that I had to buy for a wedding. (I'm not counting my wedding gown). In terms of everyday clothes, it's probably a sleeveless blouse that cost me $80.

No, wait; I have a couple nice dresses that were $120-$140. But for jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, etc., I usually just buy stuff on deep sale at Gap-owned subsidiaries or I go to H&M.

I would feel terrific if I thought I actually looked like Vincent D'Onofrio. He's like fifty bersquillion times betterlooking than me.

$80 on a pair of doc martens. they're 12 years old now and still going strong.

my awesome powder blue cloth winter coat w/ the fur collar was $1. my other awesome coat, the alpha industries orange kenny parka, was $60. i am a cheap-ass mofo. most of my clothes come from forever 21--xtian, i know, but no worse than the gap and better than urban outfitters, whose owner is a supporter of rick "man-dog love" santorum.

My ol' Docs cost about $100, as I recall, but I don't have them anymore. My flash Nike kicks cost around $100, and my Tims (oddly enough) cost less than $50.

As a rule, I tend to consider any clothing out of the question if it approaches the magic $100 mark (even my best hip-hop gear and my tricked-out Neighborhoodie came in well under that), and shoes at $150. Beyond those numbers I start getting nervous and run for the nearest thrift store.

Assuming that wedding gown doesn't count, my most expensive article of clothing is a brown wool topcoat by BCBG. It's cozy and has a rad collar. I think it was around $600 or something.

That's cheaper than my computer but much more than my gun.

It's nice, and should last me a long long time. I factor in cost/use for things like this, it's part of how I justify it. For example, my Banana Republic wool coat, which was around $200 or something and of course Made in China -- the lining began to come apart, the pocket lining is torn, and the wool has pulled and pilled so bad it looks like something out of my high school's drama dept costume closet. And that was after having it for only 3 winters. Three not very cold winters. EFF YOU COMPANY I SORT OF WORK FOR!
