Pebbles & the Nibbler, 2 Young Angry Aspects

May 01, 2020 17:54

I had a couple of disturbing dreams recently.

A few days ago I dreamt that a red-haired girl was giving me lip and it was like I was her parent or something (blended with Ray aspect?) and I told her if she didn't cool down I would cool her down, and I threatened to dunk her head under a running faucet of cold water. I was so offended that she was ( Read more... )

Woohoo! More parts! x-D

"asked her what she called herself all this time"
"but she showed herself pinging little pebbles all over the place, like verbal mini-bombs. And I realized that I used to go off on mini-rants, and often at the wrong time, when I was much younger."

Cool way to dig up a name! Some of my parts have been through half a dozen nicknames, LOL. (Going back through years of journals last week, I could see which parts were the same but I just had different placeholder names for them in different months or years...)

The Nibbler makes a lot of sense to me about you! I think I've noticed "her" occasionally, and I vaguely remember you seeming a bit checked out somehow when you do that. I feel like that was more during your marriage than the recent couple times I've seen you. I wonder if IFS would classify her as a Firefighter - she jumps in to handle stress so that deeper pains aren't really felt...?

Ug-- "Firefighter" is such a terrible name for what those parts do. They're the DISTRACTORS at best. They don't put out fires, they start them! "Firestarters" would be a better name. They're the parts of us that are addicted, or compulsive, or act out in very damaging ways.

But, my gripe with the name of that category of Aspect aside, I think she would. The Nibbler is so primitive and just serves the purpose of splitting my attention just enough to soothe me. And it works! Drives me crazy, but it's a handy distraction for sure.

(Icon here is of The Nibbler-- closest I could find to how she looked in my dream.)

Yeah, that's about what I imagined =) Kindof innocent-looking spacey girl.

& Yeah, there you go! I've been wrestling with the firefighter term myself, too. It's maybe not necessarily as dramatic as starting fires or a full-blown addiction -- like the Nibbler isn't ruining your life. It's like my Ben the overeater who can cause a new problem of weight gain / sluggishness while numbing a whole bunch of other problems... But their problem they make can be negotiated over time, it seems, if they feel comfortable that we're taking care of things. Something like that.

Hmm

Definitely the most pesky problem in Aspect healing! The "Distractors" is probably a less judgey name, if that works. Because that is their purpose... to help us not feel so overwhelmed. But they all seem to have limited "thinking" capacity.

Very much "hmmm..."

Great dream work!!

The Nibbler is so cute as an inner identity, ahhh! A very pure energy, it sounds like.

As for Pebbles, this one sounds connected into various different layers of understanding or personhood that have, perhaps, yet to be won over fully by you, even if she has been able to convey herself more easily than the younger one in this exchange.

I felt like I heard/sensed a glimpse of *you* as a unified spirit coming through very vividly through this entry. It affirms again for me the powerful nature of connection to inner selves and of dream work.

Very neat ;)

Here she is! (See icon.) The Nibbler image I found.

Dream work, when I can manage it, seems to be the most powerful and FAST healing work I can do, because I can address my own subconscious mind the most easily that way.

You know-- it occurs to me that The Nibbler is orally fixated like a baby, which may be why she doesn't talk that much. Her behavior makes me think she didn't develop much past that self-soothing state... Hmmm...

That makes complete sense.
