Cloud sighed, bowing his head and scratching at it before pulling his hand away -another Zack gesture; they were becoming more frequent- and pointed towards one of the clouds in the sky. "You see those? Those are...well, they're clouds. And they carry water inside, and when there's too much they let it fall to the ground." Not exactly a scientifically accurate explanation, but it was the closest he was going to get.

Simon was going to see rain, sunrises, sunsets...he was going to be experiencing a whole new world. No need to bog it down with tech-talk, after all.

"Water falling from the sky?" Simon exclaimed, eyes widening. That kind of thing was possible?! The surface was full of amazing things! "I want to see it! I want to see rain! I hope it rains while I'm on the surface!"

A thought struck him then, and he fidgeted once more, looking uncomfortable. "Um... M- Cloud... do you know where Jiha is? Do I have to go back there, or can I stay for a little bit?"

He wanted to see more of the surface, but he could hardly expect a stranger to want him around, when no one in his village but Kamina did.

...He missed Kamina already.

"It rains pretty often," Cloud assured the boy, and nearly patted his head before drawing his hand back, rubbing his arm to cover the motion. "You'll probably see it."

Oh boy. How would he break it to the boy that he more than likely wouldn't see his home for a good long time? Luckily, he sounded as if he actually would rather stay, so that made telling him the truth a little easier. "Simon, you...might not be able to go back to...um Jiha for a while. I don't know how to get there, but...I'm positive it's very, very far from here." Cloud hesitated again before going out on a limb. "I know that...you don't know me at all, but honestly I think it'd be a good idea if you stay with me until we find somewhere safe for you here. It can be dangerous sometimes."

Simon swallowed hard at that. He couldn't go back to Jiha? It... was dangerous, too? Kamina had said that the surface could be dangerous, too, and the boar attack had proven that. If not for Cloud, he'd have tried digging his way back to the village then and there, drill or not. Though he'd have trouble if he hit rock...

But Cloud had said the village was far away...

"How could it be far?" he asked worriedly, fingers twisting together anxiously. He wanted his drill, wanted the reassurance that it gave him. "I was just there. I dug too far and got lost, didn't I? So if I just dig down, I should find it... r-right...?"

He had a feeling the answer would be no, even as he asked.

"It's...hard to explain," Cloud answered lamely, attempting to gesture but letting his hands fall to his side when he realized it wasn't helping. "We were brought here by some people called the Malnosso...they're..." Cloud hesitated, and dragged a hand through his hair -not stopping himself this time- before letting out a breath. "Not good people. I'm from a completely different planet than you..."

This explanation was not going well. Cloud scowled in frustration.
