Simon blinked as Cloud started to walk away, pausing a moment before stumbling after him, scurrying a little to make sure he kept up with Cloud's longer legs. His steps were sure, used to the unsteady footing of his underground home, though he kept letting his eyes wander around, and as a result nearly bumped into Cloud's leg every few minutes.

He was scared, a little, but he couldn't help but feel a little excited, a smile crossing his lips. The surface... it was beautiful, and just like Kamina said! The sky was endless and blue, and there was no ceiling above to crush him.

Even with monsters around and no one nearby but a stranger, he felt a bit safer than before.

Cloud took the opportunity to watch Simon as the boy gazed in wonder at their surroundings; he supposed it was a lot to take in, for someone who'd been living literally under a rock his entire life. Letting a hand hover just behind the boy's back to steady him, as he was so enthralled in the wildlife and the sky that he would probably trip over a tree root, Cloud couldn't help but think of the orphanage. Some of the kids there weren't much older than Simon...he hoped they were doing all right.

Cloud pursed his lips thoughtfully before attempting to start a conversation, awkward and unsure; he was terrible at small talk, and didn't usually practice it. "...so...first time seeing the sky, then."

Simon blinked at the hand at his back, glancing up at Cloud. He smiled brightly, looking up at the sky again. "Yeah! Kamina told me about it - he's the only one in Jiha who's seen the surface - and nobody believed him, but I kind of wanted to see it! I-it's big and blue and beautiful, just like he said! Do you always live on the surface?"

"All the time." Cloud gestured back at the sky. "Sometimes there's rain, though, so it's not always blue like this." He paused; how would he explain rain?

"Rain?" Simon echoed, expression puzzled. "What does that mean? And the sky changes colour?! I want to see it! I want to see everything!"

The pain at his back - whatever it was - was starting to ebb away in his excitement. There was so much to learn!
