"M... Malnosso?" Simon echoed. Not good people? Different planet? His eyes wandered once more, but this time they halted on the strange, fluffy things protruding from Cloud's back. He stubbornly pushed his newfound fears to the back of his mind and pointed, eyes widening again. "Wh-what are those?!"

Cloud glanced over his shoulder, startled, scanning the trees but spotting nothing. "...I don't see anything." Was he pointing at the leaves? The bark, some birds, squirrels or something?

Simon gawked to him, amazed. Were they invisible? Or was he just seeing things? Maybe the surface had something funny in the air... "Th... those grey things! On your back! What are they?"

...oh. Those. Cloud ruffled them a bit in agitation; if Simon didn't know what they were, then he probably wasn't aware of his own...this was going to be awkward. "Those...those are wings. I don't usually have them," he added hastily before realizing that was a fairly confusing thing to say. "I mean...I got them when I came here. You did too."

...oops. Cloud pinched the bridge of his nose; so much for breaking the news gently.

"Wings?" Simon repeated faintly. "I don't have any-"

But then he stopped, because he'd been reaching up to his own back as he said it, and he felt them there. Very slowly he curved a head over his shoulder to peer at them. Wings. Whatever that meant.

He let loose a yelp, scrambling forward as if to escape them, but sure enough they followed along, attached just as surely as Cloud's were. He dropped down and tried to roll, but that brought back the pain with a vengeance, and as he scrambled back to his feet he tripped on a root, falling face-first to the ground again.

He sniffled faintly, staring ahead of him, in shock. Everything hurt. The surface suddenly felt cold and unforgiving, no longer so wonderful. Why did he have wings...?
