Red and gold were slow to focus on him. The sound of his hurried footsteps rang in Vincent's ears. But the voice - his voice - rang out loud and clear. Vincent could never mistake the sound of his brother's voice. But in the moment it took him to turn his head, and focus his eyes on the dark figure, he wasn't entirely sure if it was his brother, or an illusion brought on by the massive flooding of memories ( ... )

Seeing that sort of sad, sick smile on his brother's lips when he looked up at him only made it worse, along with his gaze catching sight of the red scratches around his brother's right eye. So he really had tried. A look of guilt and mixed sadness crossed Gilbert's face in that next moment when he heard Vincent speak to him, now standing just a tiny bit in front of his brother where he sat on the bed ( ... )

Oh he could see something was wrong with his brother. There was a deep sense of sorrow in his voice, and his expression was one of guilt and sadness so strong that even Vincent could not miss it nor mistake it for something else. It was painfully clear, and yet Vincent could not understand why his brother looked so upset. Shouldn't he be happy? This wasn't the same young man who didn't remember anything. This was the Gilbert who had been there with him and had lived and suffered through each and every painful day - who had sacrificed himself time and time again for his brother, only to be hurt time and time again without reward. The very same Gilbert who had found great happiness and then lost it all because of Vincent. Vincent destroyed everything. He was a walking disaster waiting to happen ( ... )
