Recruitment -- Traverse Town [Open and Incomplete]

Sep 28, 2006 21:40

He didn't complain as he posted up the flyer. He didn’t mind doing things like this. He liked helping the war effort; that was the reason he had joined the military in the first place. The flyer had carefully printed messages on it, propaganda probably, but it was still important. It talked about joining the fight against the Heartless. He had ( Read more... )

The redhead decided that after being cooped up so long in a bar, that it was time to go get a little bit of fresh air. A couple minutes on Reno’s leisurely stroll, one of those said posters tumbled past and stuck to the ground under his feet. Out of sheer curiosity, and the fact that it was about the only flyer he had ever seen in the vicinity of Traverse town, it was snatched up. Some kinda recruitment for an army. Reno raised an eyebrow ( ... )

"ShinRa has been the major backing for the Council for several years, sir," the soldier said. "They are always looking for people to join their ranks." He took out a clipboard from the papers tucked under his arms. "Please fill out these forms and we'll give you a seat on our transport."

The form was just some things to ask for their names, home world and other basic information. It was mostly formality. If this person already knew about ShinRa they probably already came from Hollow Bastion. "Rufus Shinra is the popular candidate to become leader of Hollow Bastion after the war," the solider added, mostly making conversation about a topic they both knew a bit about. Plus, maybe the red-head would like to know a bit about the politics of his home, if Hollow Bastion was indeed where he came from.

The clipboard was snatched with a little malevolence.

Paperwork. One of those things that he always managed to pawn off on other people in the Turks. He hadn’t had to do any in years. ..Suppose this could call to break that chain. He had to get back there after all.

The pen was cupped in his left hand only half listening to the recruiter. That was until a name caught his attention.“Rufus?” Finally things were starting to look up. “There any way I can meet with Mister ShinRa himself? Used to work for him.”

The solider blinked once. So, this person was from Hollow Bastion. "I'm sure something can be arranged once you are back at Hollow Bastion." He wasn't sure that was ture, but it would make sense of Mister ShinRa and this guy were friends.

Maes Hughes approached the flyer he'd caught sight of from the hangar, boots hitting Traverse Town's cobblestone with the quickness and eagerness of one who has found a possible way out of a maze that had once had no return. Hughes felt bad about leaving Ed, no question about that, but he felt that to ignore a possible way he could help the effort and instead keep watch over the young alchemist and hold him back from his own path to maturity would be an unwise decision, even if it made him feel better. Ed could take care of himself; if anything, the alchemist had drilled that idea into everyone's head since the day he'd met him, and what Hughes had said held some logic; this way, the two of them could cover more ground in less time, perhaps find the people they cared about through each others' eyes ( ... )

"I do, sir," the soldier answered promptly. He looked at the man, taking in his face and stance. "Do you have any military experience?" He had heard stories of men and women who could sense if someone else was also part of a military, but it was always a bad idea to make assumptions.

The soldier pulled one of his pamphlets from under his arm and handed it to the man, expecting him to ask for more information when some answers were inside of the words there. So far, he had gotten two people to speak to him without having to pester them, he felt a little proud and excited. Even one more solider was one more than they had before. The young enlisted man was careful to keep a professional demeanor though, it was important he keep the right impression.

"Sure do!" Hughes grinned, gesturing towards the two-starred epaulets on his shoulders and the multicolored pins across his chest. He gave man a loose salute. "Lieutenant-Colonel Maes Hughes of the country of Amestris, though I'm looking to help the effort here."

The man tried to hand a brochure to him, and Hughes chuckled a little, holding up the pamphlet he'd found with the first flyer.

"That's fine, I already have one." The investigator glanced at the guy's uniform, wondering, with a certain strange feeling, if he'd have to change his usual blue attire to that kind. Well, it wouldn't be too bad, he guessed. (It'd at least diffuse the jokes about "skirts" that Amestrian military men tended to get from foreigners.)

"One question, though," Hughes said, voice suddenly serious. "Have you seen or heard of a man named Colonel Roy Mustang around?"

The young man thought for a moment. "I'm sorry but I haven't. Are you sure they are on Traverse Town?" He seemed a little interested. If a Colonel was on the world then surely he would also want to join the war effort for the Light, right?
