Excellent!

You captured Ianto's thoughts really well - his attempts at denial are very in character for the timeframe - and quite apart from that it's hot enough to melt the brain!

You really need to get this posted to some of the communities - I'd suggest jackxianto and torchwood_fic - so that more people can read and enjoy it.

I'm already looking forward to the sequel - can't write smut to save my life, but I love to read it.

Guess that really does give you an advantage with Rhys =)

Gwen is just everything I dislike in a person - pushy, prying, self-righteous, a hypocrite... She's supposed to be the ideal woman or something, but I hope I'm nothing like her o_O ( ... )

I suspect I am a bit like Gwen: I know I can be as stubborn as she is when she gets her teeth into something. I like to think I don't share any of her other 'qualities', though.

I think Gwen would have left Rhys for Jack in a heartbeat if he had even so much as suggested it. It's one of the things I really dislike about her, because she really doesn't deserve such a wonderful guy. He might not be perfect, but he's funny and loyal with a steady job. What more could a girl want?

I actually grew to like Owen more once he was dead, because he began to realise what he was in danger of losing. His relationship with Tosh could have been so fantastic if it had been allowed to flourish. I suppose the problem was the squick factor, what with Owen being a tiny bit in the deceased side (yet it never stops the vampire stories).

Yeah but vampires are considered sexy while zombies are rather less attractive, lol!

I just liked Owen better from the start of season two, he seemed to have made some kind of peace with himself. His first 'death' was rather tragic because of the way it made him take stock of his life. He just took too long to really appreciate Tosh.

Gwen would have dropped Rhys so fast his head would be swimming, but i noticed that whenever Gwen started to make moves on Jack he always sent her home to Rhys. He hired her in part because she had a life and relationship outside of Torchwood so could bring a different perspective to the team. He would never have slept with her for that reason

It's always entertained me that the 'sex addict Jack' people seem to miss that. She put out that much that very few red-blooded men would say no. That Jack did speaks volumes about his personality, and his grasp of twenty-first century etiquette: it's a non-so-subtle way of reminding her about her boyfriend/fiancé/husband, that he knows about.

That, and Ianto would have his balls if he ever tried it, of course ;)

Not to mention what he'd do to Gwen! It's not that I think Ianto is terribly jealous, I don't believe Jack's flirting bothers him, but I think he'd feel bad for poor Rhys and really, sleeping with someone else's partner isn't just cheating, it's bad manners.

Slightly off subject, one of the very best Torchwood writers is lawford - I could only dream of writing so well. Her journal is friends only, but I recommend sending a PM requesting to be added. It might take a while for her to get back to you, she doesn't get online a lot these days, but she writes the boys' relationship so believably you'll be missing out on some real treats if you don't get to read some of her fics. Check out tanarian too for that matter!

I really must let that particular bunny loose and see where it takes them - how far would Ianto actually go? I think that could be entertaining, and probably end up as a terrible crack-fic.

I think that if Jack's flirting really bothered Ianto, they wouldn't be together. It's not like Ianto didn't know what he was getting into there.

Which is something that bugs me about 'The Stolen Earth', actually: Ianto's so OOC in it it's painful. Proper Ianto would not be caught dead watching Paul O'Grady, or being that jealous of Jack meeting a soldier in a bar. I must work out a way of fixing that...

Dammit, I'm supposed to be sleeping, not coming up with new bunnies!

I'm looking at some of tanarian's stuff now. I've PM'd lawford and will wait patiently for her to get back to me.

I look forward to what you'll come up with! I suspect that any Ianto seen after Exit Wounds was actually a fake and Jack had already sent the real Ianto offworld for safety because he knew what was coming ;)

I have two particulr favourite fics by tanarian :

Distract Them : http://notcannon.livejournal.com/24955.html

and Unforeseen Risk Elements : http://tanarian.livejournal.com/97865.html

I also love this short series by invisible

lawford is amazing, hopefully one day she'll get to finish writing 'God Is In The Details', which is real edge of seat stuff. Chameleon, one of her series, had me laughing so hard I was crying at one point - the utterly memorable chapter 19 ( ... )

I have just giggled my way through Distract Them - what a lovely treat. Thank you :)

I do like the idea of Jack stashing Ianto somewhere safe to keep him safe, although him not being real does somewhat spoil the lovely scene where he 'comes out' to his sister. I've always rather enjoyed that (finished perfectly with Johnny's crass teasing).

I have mixed feelings about that scene, mostly because the whole 'It isn't men, it's only him' bit doesn't fit with the Ianto who comes across as someone perfectly comfortable with being in a same sex relationship. I always felt that Ianto was attracted to the person rather than the gender and had probably been attracted to people of both genders over the years and then suddenly it all seems to bother him and he starts making excuses to Rhiannon. It's a beautifully acted scene, it just doesn't fit with the Ianto I see, if you know what I mean.

Distract Them just shows how amazing Ianto is, he can even out-logic a bunch of Daleks! Glad you enjoyed it, it's one I often re-read and never tire of.

I tend to think of it more that Ianto doesn't really think of himself as 'gay', or indeed 'straight'; more as you say, he's attracted to a personality. So in that respect, him saying that it's only Jack means that he's not looking at anyone else, male or female. That's how I took it, anyway.

I hadn't thought about it that way. That makes it sort of a statement of commitment.

That's how I've always seen it. Even though they're struggling to define their relationship to each other, he doesn't seem to have that problem with his sister.

Plus, I get the impression Rhiannon is trying to see her brother as her new gay best friend, who will go shopping and bitch about men with her, and that's just so not Ianto. Okay, he's good at dress shopping, but that's not the point I'm trying to make here. Dammit, this is failing miserably, isn't it?

LOL! Sometimes putting thoughts into words just doesn't work. I know I've run into brick walls before trying to explain my perspective on something to someomne else.

I think the point I was trying to make was that Ianto isn't the kind of person Rhiannon was clearly hoping he was, and that he was letting her down gently.

Yeah, that makes sense. Rhiannon was making assumptions Ianto wasn't comfortable with.
