14th Gryffindor Note - [Action]

[So it's been a month that Hermione hasn't really come out of her room aside from school and eating. But it's been obvious that she's been preoccupied with something this entire time. However, when asked she's simply brushed it off as nothing. Or she's working on a spell. Or something similar. But she wouldn't give a straight answer and waved off ( Read more... )

[Well her house isn't that far out of Sokka's usual walk to the plaza, although he never goes down that path. Still, fire catches his eye. After all, it could be Azula. Or Aku. Or any other pyromaniac freak in Luceti causing trouble. So seeing that, he'll stealthily be edging closer, using the trees to the north to keep himself hidden.]

[It's just Hermione. Using fire. With no wand in sight. She's frowning in concentration, though, and it doesn't look like she's trying to burn anything. More like she's manipulating the fire. Oh, wait, no. That was just a ball of flame in her hand and it's quickly gone, followed by a huff of frustration.]

[Oh, he knows you, he thinks. The face is familiar, anyway. And since she seems to pretty much fail at fire, he has no problem making himself known as he walks out of the woods and leans against a tree, taking a bite out of an apple he brought with him.]

Firebenders make it look so easy, don't they?

[Probably has seen her around, and if he attends school, he'll likely know her as the girl who answers every question correctly.

[If she knew what he was thinking about her skills with fire, she'd prove him wrong. At any rate, she hears the voice and glances up with a frown.]

Firebenders are from your world?

*There is a tiny girl walking past who Hermione might find a tiny bit familiar! ... or maybe not, all things considered, but.*

Ahh, is that magic?

[You do feel familiar, but she's too distracted.]

Yes. It is. [She pauses, though, and the fire ball disappears from between her hands.]

I only stopped concentrating on it.

[Frown. Where does she know you from?]

[Neville is neither Harry nor Ron. But if Hermione's going to insist on running around screaming, he's going to be curious about it. He pokes his head out of his bedroom, hoping he won't find her on fire or something equally terrible.] ...All right, Hermione?

[Well... he's still someone and right now that's all she needs. And no, no fire over here. Just wind.]

I'm brilliant! [And she means that in more ways than one, though subconsciously.] Have you seen Harry or Ron? [Feel free to ask what she's so worked up about. She'll answer.]

..I haven't, today. [Though Hermione's smile is rather infectious.] It looks like you've got good news, though. [Though considering how secretive the Trio tends to be, he's not about to pry for information she doesn't want him to know.]

[Yes, but this isn't crazy killing-Voldemort stuff, so it's fair game! She bites the inside of her cheek for a second.] Well, that's all right. I've just discovered how to manipulate other magic. I've begun with Filial magic, but I think I can manipulate wind into a primitive form of the Disarming Charm. If I can work with someone else's magic, maybe Terra, we might be able to figure out how to translate spells across different worlds, magic type to magic type. It's a big break through!

[Oh, yes, she looks excited. More excited than she's been since she arrived here, that's for sure.]

[Terra's out and about now that the thought bubbles are gone. Reveling in the fact that her thoughts are safe once more, she passes by Hermione's house...and pauses upon spotting her. Curious, she steps forward to get a better look.]

[Hermione's just standing upright, doing what looks like waving her arms in the air. Fire keeps sprouting in front of her and she's gotten it to remain for a couple of seconds, but whatever she's trying to do, she can't quite get.]

[Terra hangs back, peering at the fire with great interest. She wants to ask about it but is reluctant to interrupt. Therefore, she resolves to wait a little bit and see if Hermione's efforts will be rewarded.]

[Nope. No reward here. Just a frustrated sigh. But she eventually notices that someone's out there and she squints in Terra's direction.]

Hello?

[Originally, Draco was out of his house and on his way to find Harry take care of some business, but he stops shortly when he finds Hermione playing with fire.]

...what the hell are you doing now, Granger?

[Playing with fire indeed. She glances up, spots him, and hesitates for a moment. The fire disappears.]

I'm testing something new with the Filial magic.

[He's just going to slowly approach her, trying to decipher this for himself.]

The Filial magic...like what?

[She hesitates again.]

Like translating our magic to other magic types. Like casting a Disarming Charm using only wind magic.
