[So it's been a month that Hermione hasn't really come out of her room aside from school and eating. But it's been obvious that she's been preoccupied with something this entire time. However, when asked she's simply brushed it off as nothing. Or she's working on a spell. Or something similar. But she wouldn't give a straight answer and waved off

[Well her house isn't that far out of Sokka's usual walk to the plaza, although he never goes down that path. Still, fire catches his eye. After all, it could be Azula. Or Aku. Or any other pyromaniac freak in Luceti causing trouble. So seeing that, he'll stealthily be edging closer, using the trees to the north to keep himself hidden.]

[It's just Hermione. Using fire. With no wand in sight. She's frowning in concentration, though, and it doesn't look like she's trying to burn anything. More like she's manipulating the fire. Oh, wait, no. That was just a ball of flame in her hand and it's quickly gone, followed by a huff of frustration.]

[Oh, he knows you, he thinks. The face is familiar, anyway. And since she seems to pretty much fail at fire, he has no problem making himself known as he walks out of the woods and leans against a tree, taking a bite out of an apple he brought with him.]

Firebenders make it look so easy, don't they?

[Probably has seen her around, and if he attends school, he'll likely know her as the girl who answers every question correctly.

[If she knew what he was thinking about her skills with fire, she'd prove him wrong. At any rate, she hears the voice and glances up with a frown.]

Firebenders are from your world?

[No doubt he has seen her at school. He's usually the one in the front of the science class listening intently and in the back of the magic class barely paying attention. But he also remembers her as the girl who introduced him to chess.]

That they are. [And there's three of them in Luceti now.] Was that Eferin you were using?

Yes. [Better to make it seem like she's not using two different sets of magic at once. Fewer questions that way.] I'm trying to get the hang of it. It's so different from my magic.

Oh. You know other magic too, huh? [Well, go figure. His sister can already bend water and she's learning magic too.]

Eferin is a hard one though.

My own, yes. [She's stopped trying to use the fire at the moment. Doing it while distracted will only lead to someone getting burned.]

I already have my own fire magic. [And she's good at it, too.] It's just very different. [She pulls out her wand and demonstrates by conjuring her famous bluebell flames in her hand.]

[And he watches the flames with what can only be described as mild interest. Besides the fact firebending is just that much more awesome, he has a pretty mild reaction to magic in general. Unless it's aimed at him anyway.]

That's not too bad. What's with the stick though?

It's not a stick. It's a wand. It serves as a magical focus for witches and wizards from my world.

... so you need that to do magic? So... if I had it, I could do that too?

It's only a focus. The magic it uses is mine, magnified by its own magical properties. Do you have your own magic? I don't know how they would react to anyone else's magic.

Nope, no magic here. Well, besides the Filial kind. No bending either.

It might work with Filial. I haven't tried yet. Might be worth finding out, though. [She seems oblivious to any possible insult she may have given him.]

Hmm, maybe it could. I know how to do wind, fire, and lightning already.

I'm hoping to get something set up soon. If you're quiet about it, I may have something to work on with the Filial magic, a better way to protect everyone. We could try it then.

[besides, her wand is her precious and she's hesitant to give it to anyone who doesn't know how it works, especially out in the open like this.]
