We need to talk.

Lylith stared at her homework in contemplation for a good ten minutes before deciding she really didn't want to do it. She picked up her phone and contemplated calling Bartholomew, but then it occurred to her that seeing him would probably put mixed feelings in her head about Ethan. She really missed Lo, but she knew if she talked to him then Ethan ( Read more... )

Joshua's cellphone jolted into life, vibrating with a loud growl. He glanced down at the number, told Jennifer he would brb on instant messenger, and slid the cellphone up as he put it to his ear.

"Yo. What's up, my main squeeze?" he said through a grin, obviously making an attempt to use shitty ghetto.

Lylith couldn't help the laughter that escaped her lips as she ruffled his hair. "She thinks she's too good for all of them anyway. Trust me... she's after you. Nobody else has a chance when she's going after someone."

"Hmmph. Well, I can guarantee no one is better for her than I am, anyway. She needs an older man to take care of her - how old is she, anyway?"

Lylith laughed again and stared at him in disbelief. "You don't even know how old she is?" She rolled her eyes then decided to try something fun, and sort of cruel. "She's turning sixteen next month. She looks older than she is. She got that off her mom."

"She's. Sixteen." Joshua's eyes had gotten a little wide, and he seemed to have suddenly gained much interest in the beer can he was holding. "Sixteen. No way, she's like.. eighteen or something." He took a deep breath, trying to hide how distressing this news really was, and said casually, "Well, I guess as long as her parents don't know I'm twenty-one.."

"So, you're just going to ignore it and pray to God you don't end up in jail? That's probably not the best route to take, Joshua." She raised an eyebrow at him, and as awful as it was she couldn't help but laugh inwardly at Joshua. She would tell him her cousin was really turning nineteen, when she was over how amusing it was to watch Joshua panic.

"Her parents got rid of her last boyfriend. They didn't seem to care for him too much when they found out how old he was."

Joshua's face went stiff, his nose crinkling unattractively at the thought of her parents pressing charges. But he swore that she told him she was eighteen!

"Why the fuck would she lie? I swear to god she told me she was older than that.. I mean, just look at her breasts!"

"Her breasts are the same size as any other teenagers... and probably smaller." She laughed and sent him a playful wink. "She just told you that because she likes you and knows if she told you her real age you would leave her." She stuck her tongue out then patted his arm.

"No, I'm kidding. She turns nineteen in two months. If you want to win her over, like everyone else in our school, you should get her something."

There was murder in the werewolf's eyes. No, really, his eyes did glint red for a moment, anger flaring up briefly. But he quickly reminded himself that this was Lylith and, hell, he'd probably be guilty of doing something like this to Lo so. He needed to breathe. Calm the fuck down.

"She can't pull off sixteen. What does she want?" he quickly asked, changing the subject.

"I don't know. I don't really talk to her much. If you want to know that I would just ask her." She shrugged and bit her lip.

"Well, you should probably go anyway. If you stay too long some of my dad's... friends are sure to come up." She inhaled sharply then stood up. "Maybe later this week I'll invite Jenny over and just "forget" that I invited you over the same day."

"Nah, don't worry about it. I'll go hang out with her on my own anyway. You don't need to go out of your way to set us up - I'm pretty sure she's fallen hard for me anyway. I am irresistable, after all." He winked, nudging Lylith with his shoulder, and inquired, "You want me gone?"

"Well, preferably. I'd like to have Bartholomew over before my dad gets home, unless you 'd like to stay... which would actually be kind of nice. I know Lo would never hurt me, but if you're here the first time it might lessen my... fears."

"I'm not busy or anything, tonight, I mean." He shrugged and finished his coke, getting up and stretching. "You might want somethin' strong to drink before he gets his drink - it helps the first time, trust me. Liquid courage."

"So, just stay hydrated? That makes sense." She bit her lip then flipped her phone open. "Do you think I should call him now or wait?"

"Dudette, alcohol dehydrates you. Where were you in eighth grade health ed?" He snorted and snatched the phone from her, dialing Lo's number by memory. Then he clicked the speakerphone button and held the phone between them.

"Ring ring," he mocked, as the phone rang.

Bartholomew glanced over from his kitchen, where he was sitting on the counter reading a novel. It was something by Stephen King, oh, what was that vampire novel? Salem's Lot, and Bartholomew already felt bad for the young boy. His phone was ringing, and he would've ignored it had it been any other ringtone than the Rachmaninov's Elegie that he had assigned to Lylith's number.

Lylith was calling him?

Curious, he jumped off the counter and silently moved to his phone, flipping it open. "Hello-?"
