oh man that sucks, well, I just checked old posts and they preserved th subject lines there

I liked them because you could have two conversations @ once

Thks Jamez, I had some help from some high-powered thinkers

Btw, do my pictures show up for you? There ought to be three of them, two watery scenes + Bugs

i can komment to you on FB and el gay @ th same time, it might get confusing now that their komment zyztemz are zimilar, i.e., NO TITLES

If I were kommenting to you on FB my komment would say, "happy b-day James, why don't you take a picture of it"

It seems weird that a Witt Stillman movie wouldn't be playing in New Yawk at Tribeca or something--maybe TIFF really IS a big thang now?

it's funny how much of this stuff comes up in teaching. i'm about to start teaching a college course, and all my friends that do it already are preparing me for the like/unlike dynamic of in-class criticism. "Reviews that never got around to telling you if th reviewer liked th thing or not." <- this is the way to do it, usually. another one i jokingly tell people about instructing an art class is that the first thing you need to do is get your students to stop expressing themselves. people who default to self-expression and nver learn their way out of it are doomed to never being able to articulate anything about anyone else. and eventually "the self" is pretty boring.

in other news, it's nice to see something longform around here! you and hannah showed up in succession when i logged on this morning - party like it's 2006! happy new year!

i was starting to say (but then decided this post was already rambling enough) that there are political implications to all this like/unlike stuff ...... I mean, just when we thought th American political theater had reached a plateau of self-expressiveness w/ S. Palin, this year's presidential Rs said oh yeah you call that expression? LEVEL UP

It takes a licking, but for th 1,000,000th time, nothing beats el gay, still

before i reply, apparently you can change the settings for comments back. from another lj friend: "you can change it back by going to http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml and change the choice for Disable customized comment pages for your journal to NO." i haven't tried this myself, so if it doesn't work, apologies...

and yes, the GOP also needs to stop expressing themselves. especially ron paul (i expect it more from the rest of them). it's crazy to me that in the wake of the financial crisis, the BP oil spill, hurricane katrina and 700 billion other examples of "wild weather," it's the paleo-conservative, climate-change conspiracy theorist, defender of "austrian school economics" that has emerged as the embattled, speaker-of-unpopular truths. anti-establishment sentiment has officially jumped the shark. but it's great for flame wars! unlike!

i liked Disgrace by Coetzee, but I'm poorly-read in fiction, so I'm not sure his or anyone else's lit criticism/theory would reach me ...... Yr recommendation me makes want to give it a shot, though
