5 good things about Ann Nocenti's Daredevil Run chocolatebark October 3 2008, 02:00:28 UTC
In no 'ticular order

1. Typhoid Mary
2. The DareDevil vs. Mephisto Nuttiness that I will always associate with John Romita's art.
3. The sense that it helped pave the way for Grant Morrison's ANIMAL MAN run a few years later, somehow--(In regards to the politics, not the tone)
4. Actually doing the plot where the bad guys kill the hero a few years before 'killing' heroes was a big deal, and somehow, in typical Daredevil fashion, not having it be that big a deal in the end
5. Daredevil vs. Ultron

check it out, 'Bark, this was just posted earlier today (!) -- Ann Nocenti's PR machine is out of control -- including th panel wherein DD takes Ultron's head off:

P.S. yes, I will have to look this up to confirm, but I think Nocenti's vegetarian thing might've slightly predated GM's. Animal Man started some time in 1988 ...

P.P.S. typhoid Mary's th bomb, yeah!

What th ef brought this one on?

And what is it about hughman brains that make us so susceptible to hitting pure, soprano heights of love and adoration for stuff we sorta understand is shitty, even as we are mid-falling?

i'll explain my current situation to you via telephonic device, it will be easier that way

As for yr second Q: perhaps it is a little related to why some people loved America most when we got hit hard by terrorists

There's something loveable about stuff that doesn't hold together -- mebbe stuff that needs us to hold it together

I dunno, I'm willing to hear other answers

thanks for reading, H. I know it is long, and this is probably th last time I ever try to translate Wikipedia into conversational speech -- because it's an asspain -- but these stories were important to me last month

Do you mean th train of one research topic to th next, or do you mean some other kind of train ?

yes - your train of thought and also your train themed journal background.

i understand the whole asspain of translating research findings into conversational speech. i used to have to do a lot of that sort of thing at my last job. usually, i would be disecting much drier material than wikipedia entries.

you say these stories were important to you last month?
what stories are important to you this month?

oh haha I wasn't even thinking of my journ's background, as ah always assume people are reading from their eff pages ! Yes it is a nice background I got from a comix named Storeyville by Frank Santoro, an emotional story of friendship

Actually, H., I'm still stuck in last month, so my new important stories are still in development ... but we're possibly looking @ ...... climate change

and th outer limits of emotional consciousness ... as well as ...... America's secret policy of genocide during th Philippine-American War, American evangelical Christianity today, and America America America America

w/ a touch of Australia

charp and incisive, per usual. enough, almost, to take the ol' brain/mind off tomorrow's dental appointment / or the fact that some obscure security guard is phoning up The Beloved to ask her out on a date ("i'm not interested," she tells me / but she doesn't ask him to stop calling either. sorry / i shouldn't be unloading like this / i mean, it's hardly your fault that my candidacy for full-on chumphood is becoming painfully obvious...).

"relax ka lang" ... That's what flippies say. I guess it's sort of close to "hang loose" or "chill" or "live in th inch, dog" ......

Yes, dog, this love can be a painful thing, I don't know a good work-around that doesn't involve a heaping scoop of Daredevil style Zen ...... you know? He's th chump of Hell's Kitchen, but what's he gonna do? Hang up th tights (4 good this time)? Start stealing from th poor and giving to th rich? Hell no

I loved this-- I just got through teaching nobility and impossibility (the noble rider & the sound of words) to my poetry students and you are already over it, you are draped over these two things!

Great to come home to after getting 1554- and Chips Ahoy-induced upset stomach from debate anxiety.
