Okay, after reading coverage of the series on AfterElton.com, I retract somewhere between one-half to one-third of my squee over Kings. Because, hello television producers, THE SLASH IS CANON. Yeah, definitely not for me. I'm not a big fan of soap operas to start with, and ones where it's All About The White Guys and their Problems, with women and PoCs as ornamental support to their story... nope. Especially when you throw in the effete fop as the gay villain.

And it's absolutely cultural appropriation, no different than whiting up Avatar's heroes; one of the great biblical love stories (and it's a love story, whether it involved sex or not), turned into yet another example of how the manly heterosexual properly rejects and overcomes the fag who lusts after him.
