I've only been to Rome and Naples for a study trip (and the countryside in between thanks to a train window) but it's pretty beautiful.
If you want to attempt learning Italian before you go I recommend Duolingo which is both an app and a website. I use it for French and now Spanish and some of the things it teaches you are a bit odd but it's good for basics. The only annoying thing is being unable to skip forwards to useful things you might need (like directions). It also has a (very cheesy) flirting module you can buy for each language.

I went to Italy for a week when I was 10 and 12, and I really loved it. I'm really excited.
Thanks!! I tried Duolingo yesterday and the website didn't seem to work but that might be because my computer was struggling with a Windows 7 -> 10 upgrade. I MUST PRACTICE BEFORE I GO.

Ah, yeah, Duo can be damn slow if your computer has anything else going on. Oh and the 'buying' module thing isn't a paid for thing, it's with the lingot tokens you earn through practice. If you have a phone that can do apps that includes and option for speech practice too. If not just speaking all the website stuff aloud works too!

Ooh, I could do that! And it'd be nice, I'm too unemployed for international Christmas cards this year and it makes me sad.
