Sometimes I wonder if our Media Studies teacher had us watch "High Fidelity" just because she liked it, and not because of some gender portrayal thing. I liked it too much to want to dissect it.
Ahhh...I see what you mean. It is a very enjoyable film with many notable scenes. BUTT! The real socio-anthro/communication treasure is the portrayal of men.
You may laugh but this movie, and even more so, the book, captures the zeitgeist of the 20th century man so honestly and accurately that it lead one of the reviewers from Rolling Stone Magazine to note that "You shouldn't show this to your girlfriend. It holds too many of [men's] secrets."
Someday I hope we can watch it together. I'd love to hear your take on it as it unfolds on the screen, like a running commentary of awesome.
