More RHCS again

Aug 30, 2008 14:54

lord_peng1 and I were discussing last night (amongst other things) ideas behind The Rocky Horror Commedia Show. Just talking things out let me bounce ideas and brainstorm. I think before I was too focused on trying to keep the story too similar to the actual play / movie. I always knew I should just keep some of the concepts and characters but change what ( Read more... )

rhps, commedia

Y'know, there is no reason that Rocky Horror needs to be limited to Halloween weekend. You could do this in time for Springfest, or perhaps wait a year and do it next fall, a couple of weeks before RHPS. (Though I do admit, it seems most fitting to try to do it the same weekend, while people's minds are already on it.)

Well, there are reasons to focus on Halloween, though. I'm not saying they are reasons that outweigh reasons to hold it at other times, especially in this situation. Halloween is tradition - not just for us. Most RHPS casts out there aims for near Halloween to be a big show even if they do other shows; many I know will have a special show actually on Halloween even if it's not their regular schedule. And give that it's been ten years now of Rocky Horror live at CWRU near Halloween that people here think of it as tradition.

Plus, commedia is all about lauding a sponsor or patron. The Voyeuristic Intentions show would not, of course, be our sponsor but we would encourage anyone to see them (regardless of my feelings toward the directors). When I was in charge of VI I made sure to encourage people to go see the Cedar-Lee cast when they were showing Shock Treatment the following weekend (even though their cast has sometimes been irked by our existence) and to go see the stage play of Rocky Horror later in the season. I would do the ( ... )

Hm, ok. Well, perhaps then the best approach would be to ask them (the commedia/VI players) if they'd be interested. Perhaps some would, perhaps some wouldn't, but it would also give you the venue to say "hey, I'm not mad at you or at RHPS, I just feel I've been unfairly treated - but let's not dwell on that. :) "

Good luck. :) Wish I could be there (as with every commedia production you do. ;) )

Yes, you should be here! You could play in our farces! :D

Oh, speaking of clubs, I dug up some old photos of the henna workshop the CWRU Medieval Society did years ago. I didn't post them to my Flickr, though - given it's still semi-bare backs of people. Oh and bare hands - scandalous!

If you wanted to do it near Halloween, remember that FilmSoc picked the wrong weekend. You could pick the right one and only have time conflicts for rehearsals.

Thanks. I think I had vaguely thought of this but not enough for it to stick into my head.

Though, as said to others, I would want to support the Voyeuristic Intentions show (regardless of my feelings toward the directors) as is apt for commedia to do. Having our play a week later wouldn't let us do it. Of course we could have our play more than once too...

But there is the issue of rehearsals, actors, and people thinking there is a negative jibe in all this. Plus we have other plays to consider. It's all worth entertaining but not sure how feasible it is at the moment in the current atmosphere.

Though some people thinking I shouldn't want to do this because it would be / would be seen as revenge... But since I was already hoping to do a RHCS in an October, would not doing because of them just be letting them influence my life more? :P

Why does the revenge have to be RHPS based? Why can't it be you all excelling in commedia? I'm not saying don't do it, but from what I've seen (just reading your journal posts) it looks like your joint members might view it as not cool. Why make it competition for them?

Just some food for thought.

Er, like I said, this isn't revenge. I had ideas for this for at least three years and last year I said "I need to do this for next fall if I'm ever going to do it." However, Voyeuristic Intentions always ate up so much time. And it was always planned to try to do this commedia parody around the same time as the live floor show - given sharing interest and cross-publicity. However, I never expected to get banished from one of them.

And even if we were to do this we would plug the Film Society show. It's what commedia does. I would not hold it against the show. We would not schedule a time that conflicted with their show - we try hard to not even conflict with regular Film Society movies! Commedia is all about advertising for something.

Also, I never said I would be pushing for this right now. I just had discussed some possibilities and wanted to write them down while excited. Whatever happens, something with commedia will be occurring during the next two months - probably more than one thing actually.

I'm not saying it would be revenge. You would just have to spend a lot of energy into telling people that it isn't. Ya know?

It does sound like a fun show concept.

Yeah, that's my worry. Of course if auditions turn out great tomorrow and we have enough... Heh.

Thanks for the comment about the concept - I was mainly wanting to share that and see if I was totally insane or if such an idea would fly. Or in this case, strut!

See, we already had two ideas for the semester - one was a commedia parody of Hamlet. However, since we proposed this, not only is there the movie called Hamlet 2 (which doesn't bug us) one of the already established and popular theatre troupes here is doing something called Hamlette. Oops.
