Nate was falling apart, that much was patently obvious. And Sophie couldn't help but think - if *she* could see it then she doubted the others would have missed it.
She could hear his uncertainty, now, when he was putting a con together. She had watched him sit up for long nights planning, contingency planning, escape planning, working out every detail. He'd sit up with Eliot in the offices, asking what would happen if this many guards turned up? What if they had guns? Where's the nearest hospital, how fast could the emergency services get there?
Nate was doubting himself, doubting his own judgement. Parker had been one injury too many for the team. One more devastating loss, and Nate was feeling the weight of it all too keenly.
They weren't mentioning it, though. They weren't mentioning a lot of things. Like how one of them inevitably had to get her into position now, or walk her out again. Like how they all carried tissues around with them now because Eliot couldn't help drooling and he never carried enough tissues for himself. How Alec had a tendency to unknowingly mumble to himself when he was tired. All these things that didn't get mentioned. They just *were*.
But Nate was falling apart, and somehow Sophie didn't think that could go unchecked and unmentioned for long.
