Same as with my other fics, I've posted up a commentary/annotation for Theory and Practice. You can find it >Here!<

Now that that's done, I really want to start working on my vignettes for Beloved Enemy's 100 Nights of Summer Challenge. My plan is to update whenever I get 5 challenges done. I'd love to say I'll have the first batch done by next ( Read more... )

"-I maintain that the person that Xellos is best at tricking is himself. He likes the persona that he's created for himself so much that, on some level, it's become a part of him."

I think you're really on to something. There is a marked difference in Xellos' personality in Slayers Next, and the subsequent series. Perhaps the "Next" persona is closest to his true personality, and he has developed the malevolent airs to keep others from finding out what most Mazoku consider weak spots. (For instance, Xellos interferes several times in Revolution/EvolutionR to keep Lina and the others safe, but makes it look like he's just amusing himself.)

I haven't seen Revolution/Evolution-R yet (It's on my list of things to do!), but it does seem like in TRY he starts making excuses for himself. 'So you don't think I'm really nice or anything' type excuses.

I don't think his happy-go-lucky persona is exactly true or his original persona, but I think he came to really enjoy being that person so much while he was trying to con others that he started to assimilate it into himself and basically con himself.

As he realizes this and sees that it could conceivably be trouble since he's come to actually rather value his 'friends' on some level, he see-saws back in the other direction. At least that's my take.

I think his happy personality is actually real. Sure, sometimes he use it as a mask, especially when Filia is concerned (ex: twitching is a great indication of that), but usually, I don't think he has to try hard to maintain it, because that's who he really is. Unlike the humans or dragons, he doesn't take life very seriously. My theory is that he think the whole world is just one big comedy show, and loves manipulating its actors to do what he wants. He has a dark side, but the humorous side is just as real as his dark side ( ... )
